  1. I think I may go with the Tingdene Caversham, that way we can get down to Bath when we want and also get back into London, sounds perfect!
  2. This truly is the best feedback and information I have received on here to date. So we live near Maidstone in Kent but have spoken to Allington Lock and you can only get as far as Tonbridge wells, its quite restricted. Based on the info you have been providing so far which ticks all the boxes, now even more so with the Thames river, we have been looking at Marinas in Caversham, there is a Tingdene one and it has excellent access to the Thames and K&A as we have had several NB holidays in Bath and its very scenic as you know, hopefully BATH is still doable with a WB. The boat will be a weekends only and not a liveaboard so hopefully the Marina option is the best option?
  3. wow thank you, just the advice I am looking for! would you say routes along the Thames Locks are still scenic in places from your experience?
  4. Thank you And this is all easily done route wise in a 57x10 widebeam?
  5. Thank you old goat. I think I will try and find a nice marina in London that will give me access to the K&A if possible
  6. Can anyone offer any advice on a good place to moor all year round, we are based in Kent but want to have good access to some of the beautiful London canals and river ways, as well as the Kennett and Avon, or is adding the K&A a bit too much? are there ample beautiful trips around the London waterways would you think? Again thanks for everyone's advice in here!
  7. Guys I just want to thank you all for your advice here, these forums are what newbies like me rely on before making a big financial decision. I am going to look for a home mooring so I have somewhere to leave the boat without having the stress of worrying about keeping it on the move all the time, the battery issues etc
  8. Hi, I am looking for some advice as a lot of the research I have been doing it still slightly confusing. We are buying a narrow boat as a weekend retreat, holiday home if you like, we will still be living in our “brick and mortar home” As we are not going to live in the boat full time and it’s for leisure only, will we be able to moore up anywhere and leave it and then move it within 14 days or will we have to buy / rent a permanent mooring and this has to be the place we leave it when it’s not being used during the week? Do we get any kind of discount as it would only be an ongoing leisure mooring and not a mooring where we would live full time? Thank you
  9. Thank you for your reply. We have hired all of the above previously and are settling on a widebeam. We know how we want the layout but want some advice on boat builders and fitters if anyone can kindly recommend? Thanks
  10. Thank you for the advice Can you recommend any builders or internal fitters at all? Thank you
  11. Hi all We are totally new to canal / river boating and we are looking for some advice. We want a widebeam for a holiday home and weekend get away with the kids, and from looking at other peoples comments in forums it seems most, if not all recommend getting a widebeam thats under 12ft wide due to the restrictions on the waterways, mainly with other barges approaching and the poor passing spaces available, What are others thoughts on this as we would like to do a lot of travelling around in it with the kids, especially in the summer months? A sailaway shell is what we want to go for to keep our costs down and get the fit out done to our own taste, we have a budget of £80,000 for the whole job, can anyone recommend a good builder and fitters at all?
