  1. Thanks “Wandering snail” I know! So sad to think of Europe after Brexit
  2. Would anyone be so kind as to offer a critique on these two. Bearing in mind I know “Number one “ needs a good scrub n paint. https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/steelcraft-70-traditional/605970 But I’m feeling like the more expensive choice “ Home at last “is overpriced when you consider the heating arrangement isn’t popular cos expensive to run. And it has been advertised for about two months which could be a clue. (Also a bit wary of the Evans and sons hull as I’ve read worrying posts) https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/evans-sons-70-traditional/607737 Thanks to all.
  3. https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/evans-sons-70-traditional/607737 Oops sorry had some trouble with net this is the one I was messaging about above Mike.
  4. Thank you for your input yes the boat is certainly in need of a refurb and Yes about pillings I am very wary of them and I must say deep pockets sounds ominous ...I was wondering if older engines expensive to fix. I’m just not sure I want to pay 20000 more for my next choice as built by Evan and sons and some of their hulls in the past have had issues, also think Alde gas central heating could be expensive as too the diesel bubble stove as well as temperamental. Here’s the link if you’ve the patience and interest to look, thanks for your help!
  5. Hi sorry for so many posts feel a but like a cat chasing tail. Now I see an affordable boat I could add heating too but concerned engine might be out of my novice mechanical league and I’ve not heaps of money as is generally the case so are vintage engines ( im thinking this is one? ) a difficult and expensive option best avoided. Unless experienced and mechanically minded. I’ll post boat link and would appreciate any comments even if not engine related thanks. I’ve gone round the houses and am back to a first pick .. put off by the reputation of marina but if I can use marine lawyer etc maybe. https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/steelcraft-70-traditional/605970
  6. hi I like a boat but capped off fin radiators suggest they weren’t working well so in addition to the solid fuel stove . I’m thinking of adding back boiler to stove if possible connected to radiators and a diesel heating system too. Would anyone have rough idea of possible cost as a retrofit. Thanks
  7. Thank you all good to know perhaps future boat swap for a few months in order.
  8. Hi I’ve been trying to work out if there’s a maximum length for boat transport from UK to Europe by ship or by truck as considering a 70 foot does any one know ? thanks
  9. I’d love to see that Kelvin manual sounds perfect advice!
  10. Thank you all so much for such interesting thought provoking threads
  11. It’s midnight where I am but I cant wait till I get a chance of reading all these other posts thanks everyone
  12. Wow Neil I’ve been poring over the details of your boat , fascinating and sounds great, when do you think you’ll retire Earnest? And have you thought of the price you’d want?
  13. Thanks Mike I was a bit worried about the 70 foot one with the washing machine having only one fuel stove at far end and no other heating aparantly the little low to ground heating panels are capped off. But perhaps that means I could get them working. I don’t think the configuration allows another stove sadly.
  14. Hmmmm thank you, yes I may need to rethink my strategy. My adult son from NZ and daughter from Ireland were able to meet for two days in London 9 and 10 September and planned to visit a boat there for me. But from what you say even that time frame is possibly too delayed. Thanks for the advice!
  15. Hi any advice as to specs to look for much appreciated , thanks and sorry If i have been bombarding you with lots of questions the pressure is on to get this right, as I know you’ll understand.
  16. hi id love to have some critique too for two boats I’m interested in if that’s ok? https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/eccleshall-60-cruiser-stern/611566 and https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/pinder-70-traditional/610312 thanks for such kind offers to newbies !
  17. Hi , I have a question about trad boats with boatman’s cabin and engine room etc are all those engines generally vintage? I ask because as a novice I may be better off with a more modern engine according to a post just read, but are older style engines more difficult to maintain etc? Thanks again to all who keep answering my posts.
  18. And boats seem to go really quick no sooner do I track one down do some research and it’s sold! The other thing to retrofit might be a secondary fuel stove and/ or radiators. For example I have an eye on a 70 footer but it’s only one fuel stove at far end as sole heating.
  19. Hi I’m finding it difficult to find my wants .. a boat with relatively equal private rooms for two teenagers plus bath and at least a saloon for me. Size of at least 57 go any where, but happy too for 70 footer live aboard cc. Any opinion whether it’s best to buy the best boat affordable for live aboard for self sufficiency and change later it to suit me with a couple of doors and bath etc ? Though I am concerned that if it hasn’t a bath or small tub etc then it can’t really house one in terms of tank size, water heating and space in bathroom. I am a novice without diy skills and wonder if retrofit is so difficult and expensive that it is it best to just keep looking ? I’m trying to buy as soon as practicable. And budget best kept to 50,000 max. Looking is hard, as I’m in NZ. But another family member needs ASAP to use it for a year first and they can get to uk to view. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Even more useful replies thanks! I’m new to using forums and haven’t figured out how to reply individually below each post but really appreciate how helpful this forum is!
