  1. I started out doing it that way but chickened out. I will need ne reading glasses on to match up the lines..

     

    The colour scheme is much brighter than I imagined but not really as bright as in photos.. just the camera lighting. However it's bright now and not miserable as before. Paint went on quite easy as weather wasn't warm and no wind. Its now had 2 coats. Needs flatting down and a thin top coat next. All paint from pdi paints in Stoke

    I was going to paint the white coach line first but thought the white coach paint would show brush marks. So I'm going to have to mask up over the red n blue.

  4. I am just about to start painting my boat. I saw a new boat that was painted in red oxide three quarters the way down then blue gloss at the stern. It's a tug named Duke that I saw on Youtube. I'm thinking of either going for that look or satin black. Then glossy grey at stern. Anybody here painted there boat in redoxide or satin as a finish?

    But whatever solution you eventually find, I agree with others that your first priority is to move the boat to a safer place where it can be left. And that means a tow, bow hauling, or a temporary outboard attachment.  Personally I would go for the bow hauling, especially if you can mobilise a couple of helpers, as it will be the quickest option.

  6. Hello,

     

    I am requesting help for my Father who is stuck someone near Manchester. His Engine is unrepairable and he is totally stuck. 

     

    He is asking if there is any good Samaritans near by that could help tow him through the Ashton flight to get to  Portland Basin, where he can have the boat taken out of the water. He is willing to pay for help. He is really stuck now and can't get any help unless the boat is removed from the canal.

     

    His boat is a small 24 foot springer

    Please PM me if you are able to help him.

  9. My Father has a 24 foot springer water bug. He is currently stranded in Manchester on the Ashton canal  by the locks. (not a particularly safe place I would image?)

     

    His engine is a 2 cylinder Thornycroft and has blown and un-repairable.

     I have been trying to help source a new engine but I am told that the Thornycroft 2 cylinder is impossible to find now and the 3 cylinders are too big for his boat.

    I was told that a Yanmar 2 cylinder will fit. I have manged to find one with a gear box.

     

    Can anyone confirm that the Yanmar will fit?

    Is a Thornycroft 3 cylinder definitely too big?

    Recommendations on a willing and able engineer to help him?
