Thank you. Nice boat by the way.

It’s a beautiful boat and a credit to the previous owners who cherished it and looked after it. We’re feel very fortunate to have ‘dropped on’ this narrowboat. You would not believe it is a 16 year old boat.

I see you have a bed/mattress insert, if I’m correct. If I am can you try to explain the procedure of extending the bad base. (If I’m incorrect, ignore me?).

The insert is for the dinette, but to extend that there’s a slide out section that just pulls out to make the bed up.

Just curious, does the motor give any drag to normal pedalling if it's turned off?

    Not that I’ve noticed

Do any of these come with 12V chargers for recharging on the boat?

Mine doesn’t, when I bought mine for the mh I asked about charging via inverter and the chap said at least a 600w one, I have a 1000w so I was ok.

  4.  I bought one of these https://www.asbikes.co.uk/ good quality and the aftersales is exceptional should you need it. I’m 18 stone and the bike handles me ok ?. I forgot to mention that I have the 26” wheel folding version, battery is good for approx 20 miles with me on it, it does struggle on very steep hills with my weight but on the flat it flies.

You do not want to live onboard whilst the boat is grit blasted.  It is a filthy job and the sh1t will get everywhere if the boat is not very carefully masked off and every orifice taped up. Ventilation then becomes a safety issue.

Find a chain hotel or an  AirBnB for the night before and the night after grit blasting, at least.

I was under the impression from the replies on here that as it’s a re black with 2 pack epoxy it doesn’t have to be blasted just roughed up?

  6. I’ve just purchased a NB that has had the hull blacked in 2 pack epoxy but it is ready for re doing due to age, I knew this when I bought it and this was included in the purchase price. Question is can you just jet wash and then reapply over the old 2 pack? Or is there more preparation required?

  7. Hello again, I initially joined over a year ago asking the knowledgable on here several questions(there are more to come) Finally, after several months touring in the motorhome around Europe the wife and I have finally decided a NB is for us, so after viewing several over the last few weeks we’ve bought one. A lovely trad stern 55ft. So glad to be back and hope to be welcomed as a new ‘green’ boater.

I would suggest my boat costs more than that Licence, insurance, moorings, blacking, batteries, BSS, servicing (DIY)  water pumps, toilet bits, painting and that is before you step onboard, then Diesel, Pumpouts,

I'm not disputing that fact, Halsey said you must allow £5k per year for ownership, well my house is £3k and thats just council tax £1400, gas& elec £1300 metered water £300min. Add on insurance, general maintenance. That doesn't include a car and associated costs. It's roughly £2k more but what price quality of life? You're only here once ?

Also don't underestimate how expensive it can be to maintain a boat. I would say that the costs of living on a narrowbaot will not be much different to a flat or small house, not counting the mortgage ofcourse.

most definately, but how many houses can you move if you don't like the view or the neighbours? ? My house costs £3k a year just to live there, i am mortgage free, soon to be house free ?

No it won't. It simply means that the seller has to accept that it's costing him 25% of the sale price to shift the boat.

If you sell a house you don't increase the price to cover the cost of solicitor's and Estate agent fees, you simply accept that you'll have to pay out a certain percentage as part of the deal. The house is worth what the house is worth. Same with a boat.

I'd agree with this. Having just sold my house for £5 grand below the estate agents valuation, i now have to pay the solicitor out of the remaining money. (the estate agent was already paid a fixed fee). So the hunt for a boat continues. But after only asking a couple of questions on here i'm now terrified of brokers and surveyors ??. Happy new year and the wife and i hope to maybe become owners soon and meet some of you kind folk 'on the cut'.
