Hi Lesley I have my family bible given to my Great Great Grandparents John and Martha Tonks by Lichfield Diocesan Barge Mission at Lent 1887. It contains the names and birth dates of my Grandfather, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandparents, John and Martha Tonks. John Tonks was born 4th October 1863 and Martha was born April 7th 1868. They had three children Nancy Tonks born Aug 27th 1883, Selina Tonks born Dec 13th 1887 and John Tonks born April 20th 1891. Nancy Tonks was my Great Grandmother and my Grandfather was Frank Kendrick Asbury born Oct 23rd 1910. He has a brother Norman born July 30th 1919. Nancy married Mr Asbury (?first name) in a civil marriage in 1918 John and Martha's boat was called ITALY and they worked the Trent and Mersey canal. Interestingly, ITALY'S sister boat ViIENNA was on display on the Cauldon Canal just outside the flint mill at Cheddleton for many years. I believe the new owners changed the name when the flint mill sold the boat!!
