As some of you may remember I have always been a Terrier Man having owned them since childhood , in fact in over 40 years spent afloat I have never been without one mostly of the Jack Russell variety . Anyway my current dog Buster a Parsons Terrier I have had since birth is now reaching 10 years old and I have been contemplating getting him some company .
Taking a look at the websites such as Pets4Homes and even Gumtree the first thing that struck me is the inflated prices being asked for any manner of rubbish , it seems that the breeding of dogs and the tax free money subsequently earned has become a popular substitute for a shift of work amongst certain sections of society The conditions some of these Pups are being raised in is certainly a cause for concern , pictures of gardens that havent seen a Lawnmower in decades , houses with no curtains nor floor covering indicate to me the wrong environment in which to hand over £2,000 to buy a dog . With this in mind I got in contact with the above Breeder and I have to tell you what a pleasure that has been , knowledgeable and principled the lady told me that she doesnt allocate dogs on a list basis , she allocates them on a suitability of owner basis which when you think about it is the way it should be . She was also telling me that only 300 Parson Terriers were registered with the Kennel Club last year and number have been falling year on year as People buy Cockapoos , Labradoodles and other mongrel breeds . In fact the traditional English Breeds are apparently being largely forsaken . After going through the vetting Process which simply involved me telling her a little about my situation I got the good news I have been accepted for a Pup in late Summer/early Autumn . The cost is £1600 and I am looking forward to a new addition to the crew .
