  1. Can someone tell me where I put the damn proddy things please? Tried it on the metal bits where the leads enter the controller, with no reading on multimeter.
  2. Is covering the panels equivalent to turning them off? Not sure I can find anything as user friendly as an on-off switch anywhere!
  3. I disconnected the batteries a couple of days ago to take readings, didn't find out until afterwards that I should have thought about solar. Will try that tomorrow, thanks!
  4. Not exactly sure what the daylight reading is but it's minimal.. 0.1 something a and 1w (I know one is current and one is power but don't know which way round it is- I'm sure you do!). Will work out connections and see if I can find an external fuse tomorrow
  5. I have a victron battery monitor and a victron mppt controller.. I started taking measurements from my batteries over the past couple of days, which was when I realised there was no solar input. Where in the setup do I measure the voltage? Electrics are completely new to me- I need to work out some diagrams of all of my connections, and I've only just learnt how to test voltage on a battery:/ The lights on the mppt controller are all off- I believe that at least one led should be on. According to the instruction book it points to a blown internal fuse which has to be sent back to the factory to sort out... Is that really the case, or is it just not recommended that you try sorting the fuse yourself?
  6. Help please! After 3 weeks of living on the boat, I have only JUST realised my solar setup is not working. And I am at a total loss as to how to even begin to start troubleshooting it. I've got a Victron MPPT controller and a 250w solar panel. Where do I start? If anybody has the patience to talk a complete newbie through understanding solar setups and troubleshooting problems, I would massively appreciate it.
  7. Bilge is now exposed, I've scraped back rust and will vactan and red oxide.. Is there a reason why bilge paint wasn't used on top of the red oxide the first time? Just a cost/time thing? My understanding is that red oxide is porous, so surely it's not ideal to protect against condensation? Also, the plastic tray and toilet tank were sat on a thick rubber mat which was directly on the bilge. I'm sure that didn't help the moisture situation either.. I'm going to put in wooden floor joists. From what I've read, they would ideally sit on raised metal battens, but there is nothing in the room that they can sit on. Does anybody have any advice about how to go about this? Wood straight onto bilge? Should I protect the wood at all? Any advice greatly appreciated!
  8. I finally got it out.. Hammer, chisel and swearing did the trick! I'm delighted to find that the toilet tank is plastic and isn't fixed at all. @Mike the Boilerman I've bumped into your friend @Nightwatch, who has been brave enough to offer to help me remove it from the boat!!
  9. Anything to get it out! I was thinking about getting a multi cutter and seeing if I could cut the front edge and try with a chisel from that side. My neighbour looked at it yesterday and said that it was plastic welded so the joins will be strong. @welly It's the bit that the plug and waste water pipe sits in rather than the top shower tray (which seemed to be just lots of small tiles on a flexible membrane) if that makes sense.. @Boater Sam Will take a photo and post it!
  10. Could anybody advise me on how to remove a moulded wet room tray? It seems like perhaps it's glued to the toilet tank? I've removed all screws and cracked all the sealant around the edges, but it's refusing to budge. Does anybody know how they are generally attached? Thanks!
  11. I want to install a compost toilet. I find the pump out grim.. Reminds me of festival toilets! Will check in the morning.. Hopefully plastic, sounds like sealing it would be pretty simple if so. It's a dump through toilet
  12. I want to remove my pump out toilet, but I'm not sure yet if I can remove the tank. If I have to keep the tank in, what's the best way to seal it? Thanks in advance!
  13. You and the dog would be very welcome, providing it was before 3rd May. My very nervous cat is moving on board then!
  14. Oh, an alarm on the inverter went off when I flushed the toilet earlier as well... I'm digging out the manual.
  15. Ok. Yup, anticlockwise arrow. Turned it a few times and it dumped out a little water. Turned the pump back on and it didn't stop pumping, continued to pump water out the side. Turned it off, twisted the valve a few more times, turned on pump again. Pump didn't stop running but didn't dump water out the side, then the sound started happening again and water pumping out. Thanks rusty69. Enjoy your eve! I have to say this is all rather exciting for me.
  16. Ok... Just to clarify before I do anything stupid, I'm turning the pressure relief valve to the left a few times, and the water pump is off while I'm doing this? So it's looking like there's a fault with the water pump? Or the heater? Or the calorifier? Or d) any of the above?
  17. Ah ok, and it doesn't turn to the right so am I turning to the left to release pressure?
  18. I've got two red knobs that switch from calorifier to water heater. Do you mean one of those? If so, which one and which way? Thanks for the quick reply! Oh I've just seen another red knob.. Will take photo
  19. Oh wait, the saga continues... So the chugging sound is the water heater dumping water out of the side of the boat. Just happened when I flushed the toilet. Any thoughts? I put 55 litres into the tank earlier.
  20. You can sleep easy tonight rusty69. I have put some water in the water tank and can now do the washing up. My first (of many, I'm sure) rookie error. Btw, I made the mistake of buying fresh water jerry cans from Aldi. Neither of the lids are watertight, which kind of defeats the purpose wouldn't you say?
  21. CC'ing was quite tempting, but I'm starting a Social Work MA in Sept so am anticipating the prospect of moving every fortnight becoming less and less appealing the closer my assignment deadlines get! Plus I've got a cat, who is quite nervous... I know she'd prefer a permanent mooring!
  22. If I was handed the boat with a full water tank (which is what I was told) and it's taken me a week to empty it- bearing in mind I'm not using the shower until I fix a leak in the tray- then the tank effin' tiny! Sorry about the suspense. I hadn't realised how many people were on tenterhooks! But it will have to continue.. I haven't put any water in yet. Had to unexpectedly drive to Maidenhead to drop off a dodgy package (my friend's bag that was rudely taken from her van and then found dumped in the street by a neighbour) and I've only just got back. I did manage to pick up a couple of water containers from Aldi and strap them to my hand cart though, so step by step. At this rate I'll have running water again at least by Wednesday! The washing up did not get done. But I did learn that tupperware lids make excellent plates.
  23. It's pretty close. I'll enlist the help of neighbours. I've stopped panicking now so that's nice
