  1. Sale agreed at least... new owner saw the ad on Boatsandoutboards, going in to a classic boat by the sounds of it. Thanks for teh advice.
  2. I bought a Springer narrow boat on a residential mooring when I was young. No out of water Survey and the Lister CE hand started engine (that I couldnt start). It was also way over priced. The residential mooring was in heaven and living on it was some of the best times in my life. Eventually I changed to a slightly more modern air cooled Lister. The boat was ugly but it was my home and I loved her and I eventually took it cruising. I expect some might say the Springer is the Austin Alegro of the canal world.
  3. It is on ebay as an auction (so people can try their luck!) and buy it now, also on boats and outboards for 800. I have video of it running and it is out of the boat I made videos of it starting and running on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znR3dggwduI&feature=youtu.be and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVwg_Mns13Y&feature=youtu.be It is on a pallet in Grimsby. I am hoping it will find a new life somewhere, perhas as a replacement for a similar engine that is knackered. Thanks for your advice folks
  4. Thanks for your advice. I videoed the engine starting just in case, and advertised it on "Boats and Outboards" (I will try ebay as well), The boat is on the hard now waiting for the new engine, so if I find a buyer they can still see t running (with a hose for cooling).
  5. I don't know yet ... I am looking for older adverts to get an idea of prices. Here is a photo of it when I took it out in 2015 to do some work on it.
  6. Thanks that is all really good advice. I will make a video of it running. Advertise it on ebay etc , and if I cant sell it before it comes out set it up on a stand with improvised starting and cooling arrangements. If I was buying it me preference would be to see it still in the boat, and to have it craned straight out of the boat in to my trailer.
  7. I am taking a Thorneycroft 154 and Borg Warner Velvet drive out of my boat to fit a replacement engine. It has a few oil leaks, eg from sump gasket but it runs well otherwise. How do I go about selling the old engine? Would it be best to advertise it while still in the boat so a potential buyer can see it running? Is there a market for engines that are nearly 40 years old?
  8. I suspect this is the serial number plate to which you refer (old photo - been painted since!)
  9. Thanks Tony and Richard that is really useful. I will check next time I am at the boat!
  10. Here is the engine just about to be lifted out. So from the rocker cover its a 2.2 -- except the lift pump! Not sure if rocker cover is alloy... I think it is chrome plated steel?
  11. My boat (not a canal boat, a yacht -- but I used to have live on a canal boat!) has what was described as a Thorycroft 154, ie a BMC 2.2 when I bought it. I had two spare lift pumps on board both the same. The ASAP site lists them as fitting the 154. But my engine has the one ASAP says fits the BMC 1.8. Is it possible that mine is a 154 with a different pump or do people think I actually have the 1.8 no the 2.2? What is the easiest way to tell? The first pic is one of the two spare pumps (I am selling them if you want one!) the second picure is what my pump (sorry for bad quality). The third picture is the pump in the manual for the 154 that came with the boat. The fourth photo is a better pic of teh pump I think I have, notice the mounting holes on the same level not one up one down and priming lever on outer end of pump not the side.
