It would be most unusual (and extremely bad practice) if there isn't a sea cock at the raw water inlet. There should be a mudbox or strainer above  the sea cock. The engine only needs to be run for a few seconds to ascertain whether or not the raw water system is flowing. If not stop the engine asap.

     

    EDITED TO ADD - I posted the above before reading the OP's latest message. I still reckon the inlet strainer needs checking before looking at the raw water pump impeller.

    It is just a case of finding it, all these years and I thought it was the hose at the back of the boat.

     

    Another thing that might show the main water pump to be ok, after I removed the thermostat, the gasket disintegrated but I cleaned the area and put the housing back on and started the engine and water pumped out from that joint from the get go, this would mean that pump is working I would have thought?

    You can flush everything from the fresh water inlet all the way through to to the exhaust,  Inlet grill, any inlet filter, engine oil cooler, fresh water pump, heat exchanger matrix in the header tank, exit pipe into exhaust pipe. Many of these will involve removing hoses and the rubber cap ends off the header tank. Be careful with these, they are expensive.

     

    I can confirm no water is coming out of the exhaust bone dry, it's the fresh water circuit that is not passing water.

    At present we are assuming you mean the raw water but you have not confirmed that. Once we know which system is not working and if its the raw water (as it probably is) what is in place to strain the rubbish out of the water we can advise further.  Taking a scatter gun approach to fault fining is not very successful.

     

    Edited to add that once we know about your system in detail we may be able to point to more and less likely problem areas but if you can't provide that then you will just have to follow Tracy's list.

     

    If there is a raw water strainer in place then once we are assured all the hose clips on the raw water system are tight  and sealing properly I would suggest that you check the raw water pump impeller, its usually only six screws. Only if that is in good condition would I start looking for other blockages.

    Tony I will get as many pics as I can , I have no idea where this water inlet is now coming into my boat, I thought for 4 years it was the hose at the back, I will be taking pics every part of the engine, thank you and all of you for the help.

     

     Yes it is modified tin can, it came with the boat, I have tried to locate an original air filter but with no luck.

  4. Ok this is the history of the lead up to the problem.

     

    My boat due to covid19 was left in the water 3 months not used, I then went to move the boat and saw that water was coming out the back hole on the the boat, exhaust hole, I always check this before I move off, it took a while but started pumping through.

     

    Once moved the boat was left a few weeks at the new stop, I am allowed to stay a month instead of two weeks for reasons, so I go to the boat to clean it and make it ready for the rest of the year, and I noticed that the filter that was on the end of the hose in the river had come off, I then ordered a metal flask of amazon and made a diy filter which I had done when I first got the boat, it has proved to work, the mistake I made with the first flask filter was I used a metal bolt to connect filter to hose, four years later it had dissolved.

     

    So this time I put on a plastic cable tie and fitted to the boat, I then took off the hose to the oil tube and there was green weed not much and the hose was clear, I turned on the engine and it took about 10 mins before water came through, but my engine temp remained at 90c which is where it always sits, this 10 mins is normal for my boat unless I use high revs, I went home and left the boat a week or so and then went to move it.

     

    It started first time no problems, so I get off the boat and wait for the water to exit through the exhaust, but there was none at all, I gave it some revs and checked again, but still nothing and now my boat temp reached 100c so I turned it off waited for it to cool some and tried again, no joy, stopped the engine and took out the thermostat to test if it was at fault, on doing so could not replace the housing due to hard to locate local the gasket, which I have since found and should be here tomorrow.

     

    So now I know that there is another inlet into my boat somewhere and that rear hose has nothing to do with the engine water.

    I really thank you all for this help, If the gasket arrives tomorrow I will go to the boat and take more pics and try find this other inlet.

  5. Pic one shows the hose from the river connector,  pic 2 shows the hose coming in from rear of my boat into the tube connector from pic 1, there is a filter in the water just hanging off the end of the hose.

     

    The tube thing has wire mesh each side of it and there was a small bit of green plant on the first entry point where the hose is connected in pic2, but the other side of that tube had the same mesh but there was no green stuff.

    I'd suggest that yes it will have an 'external' impellor pump between the hull fitting (water inlet) and the heat exchanger.

     

    You may have a 'mud-box' or a filter that is blocked (they need fairly regular cleaning) and that could be the reason the pump is not pumping as it is not getting any water,

    Can you see where the mud box and filter might be from these pics, I do have other photos I can upload. Thxs

  7. Wonderful response thank you all so much. Lucky I asked because I would have tightened the water pump belt like a car belt tension.

    I shall get more photos this week.

    Just to add I did get a 110 amp alternator but it was different socket lucky for me, as I then found out it would have been to much for my engine, after speaking to the company and sending photos they sent me a slight upgrade I think just 55 amps the old one was 35 amp, the company were great ecusdirect I have no connection to them, might be of interest to members here.

I replaced alternator yesterday slight upgrade on the standard one, it was then I noticed the belts were bit bouncy even though does not look like they are slipping I thought best to replace them, I will wait until I move so I will have two weeks to sort it, I think your right looks like two bolts holding water pump in place shall check Sunday.

    Can someone confirm if it is a bmc?

  9. I changed my alternator and noticed my belts seem bit loose, I think my engine is Thornycroft 90, bmc 1500? I uploaded a video can I get bit of advise on two points, are they to loose and how to slacken the water pump (first belt) to allow me to replace them both.

    It would help if  I had part numbers for both belts to use as reference.

    I have it running on a 1.5V AA batt for about 11 hours now if its still running after 3 days I will mod the one on the boat wait a fews weeks if no problems I will add another blowing air in to create a air flow.

    I just took one of them apart and have connected a AA battery to it and it's been spinning for about 2 hours now, maybe I could do this, there is no info on the motor as to the volts/watts so I need make sure of its safety if this works I will put another on the boat and add a switch to them and run off these batters, I think 12v might be to much though.

    No you don't take the solar to the woods as per this example, I was saying the tv will charge off the solar and then you have a tv with built in battery bank and can then go anywhere wireless with it.

  15. Does anyone know if in this grey weather if a solar power mushroom vent will spin I was led to believe that they only need daylight but mine don't spin.

    I contacted the company very big well known chandlers and they sent me another one, I installed it and same problem and made a video and sent it to them and they sent me another one and guess what same thing, so I have 3 now fair play to the company but I'd sooner just have the one that works as per my other thread I want to vent my boat a lot better.

    A friend has one of these vents a lot older different make and it works in just daylight.

  16. I run 2 of these one of which has worked fine for 2 years (boat) the other 8 months (camper van) I also just bought the one with the built in battery and comes with a solar panel you can watch in the middle of a woods as you need no wiring, still testing it.

    As for switch I use the light up rocker type maplin sell, so my tvs are power switchable.  

    The Cello in the pic below has been in use two years now and it's being replaced with the solar tv from cello but nothing wrong with it, let my friend have it I just wanted bit bigger and better res.

    I never used inverter or regulator I just cut off the cig socket connector and wired it to a switch and pushed pin into tv, never had a problem, also great for usb keys for tv shows movies and such, last of all I use the samsung dex on the boat which turns your samsung into a pc via the tv.

  17. The boat has been cleaned today very well, I did not touch the mattress or bedding which were not damp and smelled fresh, still looking for something safe to use to protect the mattresses (memory foam) and some bedding.

    Scotchgard worries me as I have  a small boat (Norman) and a log burner and I know Scotchgard is highly flammable.

    The Vacuum bags idea for the bedding is good But I also should have added I wanted to protect my mattresses.

    I fitted a fiamma turbo vent 28 few months ago but have to shut it due to rain, so I think my next move will be to fit two more smaller vents that are side on and rain/bug proof.

    Still looking for a safe fabric cleaner.

  18. Hi all 

    I am trying to find a product that will allow me to protect my bedding and fabrics on my boat, will need to be people friendly as I do stay on the boat from time to time, later today I am going to get the boat cleaned inside and also mould protection a general all over clean, but I don't have anything for the fabrics to protect from moulds and such.
