The title of the thread is misleading, this is a ban on selling certain types of fuels (not about banning solid fuel stoves), so I would have that would be easy to control.  In the first instance the fuel suppliers are not going to be supplying those types of fuel to retailers, so you will not be able to buy it.  It is not even about banning the use of the fuels, just the sale.

Good point. As it is the Vehicle Emissions Act 2002  ( Highway Code art 123) to stop car idling is rarely if ever enforced.I know having reported people for parking right on the pavement and refusing to switch off their engines...and not once have the police taken action. And yet diesels throw out PM 10s by the billion and  petrol cars benzene and other pollutants but they ant gonna ban them are they?

  2. I found a good way of reducing my energy needs. I turned off my compressor fridge and put a steel box with a lid just outside the cabin doors and store my milk and other things in that for winter....cushty, and gets colder than the fridge...and saves 3amps/hr as well.

  3. Went last year to the Broughton Arms at Rode Heath on T&M...ordered a pint which was sour, got  a sour response from the woman who served it so she gave me a pint of Youngs which was fine and left the other on the counter. The other barmaid then asked sourface " Whats that pint doing there? " to which she replied " He says its off".

The barmaid then says " Its been off since yesterday" but sourface never apologises to me.

I then go into the garden with my 2 dogs picking up a menu to order a pudding and the waiter says " order at the bar please" so I go back to the bar and sourface tells me " the kitchen is closed" and then the other barmaid  says " No, its OK for desserts"  so I get my pudding, drink up and decide...never again.

Next time I will go to the Royal Oak which is a walk away but maybe the service and the beer are better. Gave the Broughton zero points on Tripadvisor

  4. Just looked on the www, will certainly do a visit next time we are down that way. Currently in Hebden Bridge where almost all pubs, most shops and most cafes are dog friendly. Is the beer good? looks like a homebrew pub, some taste like homebrew and some are just wonderful.

In Hebden Bridge I liked the Trades Club personally although I am not sure about dogs. they claim (like many others that hendrix played his last gig there)  but I have seen some good bands there and the beer was good too.(and maybe even subsidised)

  5. OK, maybe he is a streaker and not a flasher as he has no clothes on at all so can run easily. I could report him but doubt the ol bill would bother as they are never to be seen outside the urban environment.

From what I saw, he is an old guy, grey hair so he is probably well known.

  6. Has anyone else met the flasher on the bridge just before Brinklow Marina or know of him? Yesterday he was 'active ', hiding behind the bridge top waiting to run down to the towpath, jiggle himself and run off to hide...hilarious! I asked about him in the Barley Mow at Newbold and the locals said that anyone up that way was a result of in-breeding which seemed a bit harsh.

  7. Not so sure about the maintenance bit considering all the problems this year on the cut. Lack of water, broken paddles, gates, lack of dredging, continuous Marple flight stoppages despite the money they have thrown at it. Not met many boaters impressed by CRT this year...in fact only spoken to one who was and he was a friend of the top man, Richard Parry

  8. Heard CRT advertising that they run canals, on local radio in Kidsgrove the other day...so thats how they spend our money is it? Telling people that they live near a canal. Is that so that people can decide to drown themselves if they so please..not much chance with water levels so low

  9. Just to let you know that we took all day from big lock at Middlewich to Wheelock as it was a wind up trying to get into the locks especially at locks 69 and 70. The pound between Rumps Lock and 69 is very very low...be warned. Most boaters are now travelling south and very little traffic going North....for obvious reasons. Rained for a few hours but not likely to make much difference.

  10. Just to let you know that the pound is too low to pass between locks 69 and 70 , south of Middlewich on T&M and there are now 6 boats waiting to go south and 3 to go North......could be a long wait as after 4 hours of moving water its still too low

  11. Richard, which shipping line were you, with out of interest? I was on the SS Arcadia, MV Oriana,  MV Sea Princess and Island Princess and we managed to pollute the whole world with our rubbish, but the Canberra being the flagship polluted the most!

Blizzard, see your point of view but just get a 'bag for life 'made of thick cotton...its not rocket science:captain:
