  1. Thanks for that Tony It does have a passing resemblance to the old one but it looks like there would be some plumbing to do with the water feed pipes. The old one you just shove the plastic water feed pipes onto the brass housing and secure with jubilee clips. That one look like you need screw in type pipes. Could you show me the type of thing you mean David ?
  2. Thanks to both of you for your input The pump is lying at the boat 30 miles away so I cannot give you actual specifics. So to save all the messing about maybe I should go down the " new " route
  3. Thanks for that I just thought I would replace like for like. I have had a look at some of the more modern offerings and they look cheap and plastic and I dont want to break the bank.
  4. Hello and thanks for reading I have just removed a stuart turner water pump no 10 from my boat used for domestic water supply. The question is how do you convert a water pump that runs on 230/240 volts to run on 12volts, can it be done ? I have owend the boat for 3 years now and I have not had any trouble with the water pump until now. I was looking on fleabay for a replacement and found this, the exact same pump I removed. Can it be done and how ? Because someone seems to have done it . Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope somebody could point me in the right direction.
  5. Thanks Mac Thats quite a list of pubs ! ! ! We`ll be sure to try them !
  6. Thanks again for the info I think we`ll book it and give it a try, why not ? It`s only money ! ! ! We are going to rent sundancer from bridge boatyard at Ely just because she reminds us of our own boat but she is a bit bigger than an ormelite ! ! ! Do you know of any good chippies, where you can get scraps (or fish bits ) on top of your chips ? We love a good chippie ! ! One more thing It looks as though you cannot navigate into cambridge, unlike Norwich. Is it a good walk or a taxi into cambridge from the final mooring spot ?
  7. Thanks to both of you for the replies, sorry I have not got back to you sooner but I`ve had to do the W word this afternoon. I have had a look on google maps at the area and some of it looks very desolate especially up towards denver lock. It looks as though all the pubs, shops and all the fun stuff seems to be towards Bedford and cambridge. So my next question is this - Is there plenty of water points, pump out facilities and refuse desposal ( bins ) down there ? Having 2 weeks down there you`ve got to think of these things ! ! ! As a matter of interest loddon or chedgrave was the start of many enjoyable holidays for me and our Maude ( maude is a name for a girlfriend where I come from just like a sheila in Australia ) with pacific cruisers. But alas they seem to have sold our favourite boat, pacific moonlight so hence we are looking for another boating experience
  8. Thanks for that Naughty Cal I`ve seen that pub on the " maps " app and it looks good. We`ll be sure to visit. Are the locks down there manual or as we hope automatic ?
  9. Hello all I am thinking of planning a 2 week holiday on the great river ouse system, using bridge boatyard at Ely as the start point. I have never been on the river ouse but I have been to the Broads many many many times ! ! I have also a boat on the shropshire union, so I think I know my way round a boat, well just a little bit ! ! The reason for this post is to pick the brains of you all and to ask if there is any nice places to eat, DRINK ! ! ! , visit and to dangle a line for the odd unfortunate fish ! ! ! Any tips or info would be of great help. Looking forward to hearing from you all and many thanks for reading.
  10. Yes there is a gauze filter inside the fuel pump It is brand new , so is the fuel pump. I see where you are comming from with the glass bowl but like all good " tinkers " I have not thrown the old pump away and I`ll replace the glass bowl with the brass bowl at the weekend.
  11. Yes the brass bowl is the same dimentions as the glass one. What is the problem with bss and glass bowls ?
  12. Hello again Yes I`m back, not with a problem, just looking for advice. As you may or may not know I have been having problems with gearbox output flange, sheered bolts and the like. Well that is all sorted now ( touch wood ) but I did notice the fuel pump was leaking a little and thought I would replace it. I contacted a company in north walsham called small ford parts and bought a new fuel pump ( they were very good by the way) I fitted the new fuel pump to the wortham blake converted ford anglia 105e engine and the difference in performance was staggering ! ! ! No poping and banging, no pause for the fuel to get to the carb and no throttle lag. In short she feels like a new boat ! ! ! The advice I am looking for is - the fuel pump I replaced had a blue hammerite painted brass bowl and the new pump has a glass bowl. What is the difference ? ? Oh and the new pump has no primer lever under it will it make any difference ? Hope to hear from you soon All the best johnny nosh
  13. Hello all As promised, here is an update. The flange came off, had the old bolt drilled out and re fitted the flange and all the other gubbins. I let her idle for 20 mins then took her out for a little trip down and back along the cut for about an hour and she did`nt fall apart ! ! ! Time was getting on, so the plan this weekend is to just tweek everything up and take her out again. Thanks once again for all the helpful tips and general banter. All the best johnny nosh
  14. IT`S OFF ! ! ! I have done it ! ! ! I used a cut down bolt and a wheel nut from a 1974 Hillman hunter gls ( the one with twin dc0e40 webbers and a holbay engine ) to spread the extraction force evenly. I put the cut down bolt between the output shaft and the prop shaft, placed bolts though the prop shaft flange into the output flange and tightend. Nothing happened for a while, then CLICK the output flange started to move. It took a while but the flange came out ! Leaving the woodruff key in the output shaft and no great GUSH of gearbox oil. Now all I have to do is get the sheered bolt drilled out and retapped ! ! ! Thanks again for the hints and tips and the info. I`ll update you all with my progress All the best Johnny nosh
  15. Richard Thanks again I wish you where up our neck of the woods ( meaning I wish you where near to ) I would give you the job and pay greatfully but you are not I am greatful for the pictures and your expert knowledge but the flange has to come off
  16. Mike you are right Even though you think I am a lager swilling lout who enjoys footbawll ( I dont by the way ) the flange has to come off ! ! By the way where I come from if you like footbawll you are considdered rather limp wristed and have a taste for music by soft cell and boy george. Rugby league is the only sport my town and me are interested in and I dont live in wigan ! ! !
  17. OOOOH Chaps One at a time ! ! Thats how I almost upset all you kind gents last time My puter is steam driven, and my typing skills are on the same level ! I would love to find a simple way of doing this job, helicoil sonds so good BUT I have lost 3 yes 3 drill bits into this bolt, titainium drill bits, so drilling is no longer an option The flange has come off ! !
  18. Richard, Mike is right I have already had the nut off I put the gearbox in gear ( forward ) and undid the nut I just have to contort myself into some sort of unusual yoga postition to find the woodruff key ! ! Thanks Richard for the air concern
  19. Oh oh one more thing IF I am successful in getting the flange off and successful in removing the sheered bolt would there be a correct torque setting for the 27mm nut back onto the output shaft ? Or just tighten up as much as possible ?
  20. Thanks chaps I am going down to the boat in the morning armed with everything I think I need, even a sleeping bag ! ! ! I`m not leaving till the job is done..........Wish me luck ! I`ll let you know how I get on with the job Once again thanks to all of you real ale swilling lot ! ! !
  21. How do Mike Guzzled any good bilge water recently ? ? I was planning to undo the 27mm nut, place a small shaft of steel between the output shaft and the prop shaft and pass two bolts through the prop shaft flange into the output flange and tighten , effectively using a puller. That was my plan
  22. Morning all I have been chatting to the last owner of my boat and he seems to think that the output flange can be removed by undoing a woodruff key. He has sent me a diagram of the gearbox. The area I am talking about is at the rear of the gearbox . The large 27mm nut seems to hold the flange onto the shaft and there seems to be a woodruff key in the shaft. I would like to remove the flange from the shaft, extract the sheered bolt and re fit the flange onto the shaft. Hope this helps.
  23. Yes I`m afraid I`ll taste something Flat, warm over priced dish water ! Our tipple differences apart thanks for the reply I have tried to buy left handed drill bits from tool station, screw fix, halfords and other motorcar part and tool suppliers and they all look at me as though I am from another planet ! ! I know they exsit, I have seen them on line but they all seem to come from over the pond and import taxes and handling fees seem to be fairly high for something that may not even work for me. I have talked to the last owner of the boat and he seems quite clued up but not in the best of health and he seems to think that the flange could be removed so long as the shaft it sits on does not move. Then I could get to the back of the flange get a set of mole grips on what is left of the bolt and wind it out , that was my plan. Any how please keep all the info and thoughts coming I`m off to work, boo hoo ! ! !
  24. Morning to all Yep Mike I am a lout, a lager lout ! ! ! I cannot take to " real ales " or as I like to call them " flat rib " Yes I did have a few for you lads last night but it was lager Richard makes a fair point of using a helicoil, no need to strip down the gearbox. That sounds good to me ! Problem is I have never used a helicoil before , youtube is good but all the videos I`ve seen seem to be going into aluminium. Or ALOOMINUM as septics like to say ! ! I know the output flange is not aluminium, do they have helicoil kits for steel ? I sure they do but what is the best kit to use ? Can anyone reccomend a kit ?
