  1. thanks guys yeah measuring by eye did not work out for me. 2mm was a bit to hit or miss with me. the boat is 1975 so yeah i presume the old school one but who knows when the pipes were fitted. there is 2 here. just an example i found them on ebay. same company just cheaper. https://www.midlandchandlers.co.uk/search.aspx?q=bubble tester no mention of the other measuring system or anything about glands. oh i presume you meant buy either one and the end gets replaced. is that something easy to do like just unscrew and fit the right one. sorry i know nothing about this topic
  2. quick question. please short answer or link to video would be great. please do debates on if i should get one or models as the last post was stressing me out. i am about to order an Alde Bubble tester. the choices i seen were 8mm and 10mm. is getting connected to a copper pipe. i dont see any measurements on the pipe. what is the most accurate way to measure so i dont buy the wrong one? thanks in advance
  3. Here is what i have. There are setups on both sides with 2 bottles each. Dont ask me why but that is the way it is. I dont really know what i have there
  4. Easier said than done here in Scotland. Nobody has em all. I contacted them all
  5. I was specifically told by the Inspector to get a bubble tester installed. No BSS guys up here are gas wualified and it is illegal for them to use the test points i have because i live aboard. Thats no good with yours failing
  6. No a skill level. It i can follow instruction or copy a youtube video. Someone on another forum said this. Cut your rubber hose near the bottle and just jubilee clip it on, takes two minutes, your meant to get a proper gas installer but it's a nothing job ! sound right? yeah i live full time, for BSS
  7. Hi i need to have a bubble test installed within the next 3 weeks. Can you tell me if it is an easy job to do myself as i cant get someone to fit it in time. Can it be mounted with marineflex? thanks in advance
  8. Depending on my skills, will probably turn into Baltic lady
  9. Haha, yeah def better in the Summer. But those huge gaps with no insulation is just weird and avoidable. This winter is goimg to be much better
  10. Sorry my bad, is a 1975 cruiser narrowboat. Steel hull, fibreglass ceiling.
  11. So i have ripped down my walls after a cold winter. Now that i have i realised why i was so cold. So many huge gaps with no insulation. Holes on the hull that used to be for draining out grey water but never filled in. So the mission is to re insulate, fill gaps and put new walls on ( i destroyed some of the cladding so gonna just replace the whole thing and make it more modern) so my questions are 1) whats the easiest way to fill the skin holes? 2) whats the best material to put on the bottom part of the walls? Ply, mdf, Laminate? Thanks in advance
  12. hi, does anybody have any advice of a product I could use to fully clean out my bilge. after you guys helped me find a leak my bilge is dry for the first time since I got it 8 months ago. now that it is dry I would love to clean it all up and give it a new lease of life. I have some redoxide and rust converters so thinking to put that on the floor. probably some bilge paint on top. does this sound right? anything I should do different or add? also there is a lot of dried oil which I mentioned earlier, I have been in with a scrapper but I am sure you guys will have a smarter way to go about it. maybe some magic liquid or a brush. thanks in advance
  13. Yeah it does look poor.Infortunetly my finances are a bit poor too so will have to leave it for 8 weeks. I dont know what chock blocks are. Thanks for that. Sounds like a big job. Will make sure that is done when i get the electrician in.
  14. Thanks everybody for the information. As always i am left in panic. Was just wanting to change the old wool insulation for celotex and find all the leaks and draughts and now i am worried about the electrics. Whats worst case scenareo as it passed the BSS almost 4 years ago. Is to be done again in September. I just bought the boat about 8 months ago. Maybe i put back the wool on the section with all the cables and put some conduet around whilst i am there? I am going to put more pics of the electrics to get a better idea of issues. from what i can see. Under the windows on port side runs 3 cables (black, red and a thin white) havr not ripped apart starboard side but there is at least 2 cables that i see which are thick grey ones tunning along the floor. Looks like they run to a 240v socket. as you can see i have no idea about this kind of thing. So if you could be specific with what i should do that would be great. Also, since we are here. In the pic of the ceiling there are some goldish thin cables that hook up to some speakers in the livingroom ceiling. They dont hook up to anything. Anybody know if it can be hooked up to a stereo, bluetooth system, maybe it needs an amp. Any info would be great Oh theres is nothing on the roof regarding those blocks. So i will probably take rm off. thanks again guys
  15. Hey can anybody give me a wee bit of advice on my install i took some pics on the first pic. Can u tell me how i insulate where the cables are. Oh and do i need to cut for that mushroom vent second pic. Anybody know what these blocks on the roof are for? Can i take em off to make it easier to celotex? lastly is it safe to insulate around the 12v and 240 sockets. Thanks in advance
  16. i am glad to hear that as i was not really sure about these numbers. hopefully good for another 20 years
  17. yeah i got this from the survey Bottom Plates: Side Plates: Uxter Plates: 5.2mm to 6.0mm 5.3mm to 6.0mm 5.4mm to 6.0mm
  18. yeah the issue was coming from the plumbing. is all fixed now. i appreciate the help. was just sludge under the floor boards but there was a lot of rust at the bow. i lifted up layers of it. got an angle grinder in there, rust converted it, painted it with red oxide, re painted with a roof plastic covering to prevent leaks as there seems to be a bunch of water coming in due to rust ontop of the bow. no more leaks from the bow or from the plumbing so thats great news. oh and thanks for that link
  19. hi guys. i already sent a wee msg saying that there was a leak in the water pump. also going into the tank. i did try emptying the tank before and since the bilge still filled with water i started presuming this was not the problem but after reading here about the slow process of water traveling through the underfloor i looked again. so cheers for that info. the bilge is now dry. well maybe about half a litre of water now but i am sure that is a bit of rain and condensation, gonna try block the water a bit so i can repaint bilge. hopefully there was no long term damage from all those months of water leaking. thanks again
  20. yeah it is this boat. how did you find all that info. i done a search on the boat before and came up empty handed. anymore info on it?
  21. hey iain, ah its you, i have sent you some msg before i will take a note of all these incase the problem persists. i am going to monitor everyday but after finding these leaks i am optimistic that will fix it. fingers crossed. at the least i know more places for blacking at a later date. i have monitored the stern gland. i did have issues with this before but is good now. one bilge in the engine bay, in the process of getting under the floor and see where water is collecting as it is pretty filthy under there. bigger job than i hoped. especiallyl since i am living full time. is a bit of a bombsite right now.
  22. thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. i have an old water hose i was going to throw away, i guess that will do the trick. how about coins if i run out of hose?
