  1. I can do the basics but last time changed the fuel filter on the engine, got air in the engine and love nor money could it going and ended up having a get a specialist come and get it going so don't want repeat of this. Tony is busy at the moment and Chris couldn't help me as he doesn't do old listers. Chris mentioned Ian Schools but has not number for him and I can't seem to find any contacts for him. Anyone else got any ideas?

  2. Hi all

I've not been living on boat and found that back cabin bilge was full of water when I last went on board, about 2 weeks ago. Batteries were completely drained and fresh water tank was empty so assumed a leak on fresh water pipes which led to pump pumping till dry and draining fresh tank and batteries.

I managed to get batteries charged again but removing fuse for fresh water pump and filled up fresh water tank but to see where leak is I need to get water to circulate through system. When I put fuse for pump back in, it starts pumping but don't think its managing to get pressure up to required level as nothing comes out taps or shower. Managed to get flush on toilet but this is at lower level obviously. Looking at the pump, it appears to be leaking along one the seals (pic attached) which I presume is preventing required pressure to pump water to taps?

I'm not sure this is the actual leak as that cupboard floor did not appear to be very wet and seeping is very slow. You see drips on right hand side towards bottom of pump and there are seeping out the seal just above. Is this pump repairable and would the pumping dry of fresh water tank have damaged it? Any advice gratefully appreciated?

  3. Hi all

Still having great trouble with the one drainage hole/square pipe blocking at the mere hint of dirt. The curtain wire does not bend through the 90 degree angle so can't use it to feed a chain through it. Tried washing it down with water but that didn't work either. Anyone got any other ideas on how to feed a chain down through the 90 degree bend?

    Thanks

  4. Hi

I need to move my boat from Derby up to Lymm where I'll be starting a new job (tricky with current lockdown restrictions). Hoping to start this on 1st June when restrictions lifted. Tried enquiring about mooring and licence costs with Brigewater Canal Co. Found them very unhelpful and not willing to give me a licence cost unless I had secured a moorring which I can't seem to do. So thinking of mooring on Trent and Mersey before you get onto the Brigewater Canal. Anyone got any tips on reasonably priced marinas around there? I've Park Farm Marina but tel number just says they are not available?

    Any tips greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Thomas

  5. Hi

I have a Rinnai gas water heater which does hot water for kitchen and bathroom. There are two flame settings, low and high. The low setting is fine in summer but no for winter. When on the high setting the water comes out taps at a scalding temperature. Its has a temp dial to reduce the temperature but this seems to have no effect in reducing the temperature.  Whilst I can handle this in the kitchen with the mixer taps, the mixer in the bathroom shower seems to be very fickle in controlling the temperature so you go from scalding, try to adjust to lower temp and then it goes cold for a while and sometimes recovers but mostly you have to turn it up to scalding again and try the process again. Any suggestions gladly accepted.

    Thanks Thomas

  6. Hi all

Thanks for all the advice last November, I managed to get through a cold winter by supplementing with electric heating.

I'm back with more questions about my back boiler set up. During the summer I cleared out the crap from what had dropped on heat exchanger, there was quite a lot. I drained the whole system down and replaced with new coolant. I took the first radiator out in the system and flushed it. I also fiddled with the values on the last radiator to reduce the flow through the radiator. This has improved the heat generated in the first radiator but the towel only gets warm, not hot, like the first and last radiators. Should I reduce the flow even more in the last radiator? How much can the reduce the flow without causing the any problems?

Thanks again for advice, it is greatly appreciated.

  7. Great news, she didn't sound stressed to me. Guess like the temp gauge the rev counter is faulty too. Previous owner really didn't keep things maintained. Glad all engine worries seem resolved now, it's been a rocky period with overheating problems, diesel bug, then air lock in fuel system, then temp gauge, impeller now all seems resolved. Hoping I can concentrate on other things that need doing now. It's been harsh introduction to owning a narrow boat but I've learnt loads to hopefully be more proactive and prevent problems occuring in the future. I appreciate people taking the time to give me help and advice, great forum!
