I am concidering building a water tank to fit into my boat.the roof is curved and i canot fit a conventional tank and cannot afford to have one made for me.I was thinking about making my own out of fibreglass but i was wondering if a fibreglass tank maybe slightly toxic?does anyone have any ideas on this?

  3. Thats excellent news.The engine im looking at is out of a narrowboat so it has been fresh water cooled and hopefuly corrosion will not be a problem. This is my first boat so im new to all this so sorry if this next question sounds a bit silly. On the addvert is says that it comes with "an MS 2:1 reduction gearbox and engine wiring harness and panel" Do you think that mean it has morse cables for remote accelerator and gears?......Or is it easy enough to buy remotes and cables for this engine and gearbox. Thanks.
  4. Hello again Im still tempted to buy the ford 4d but now ive found another engine that is 35 hp so a bit of a compromise. Its a VOLVO PENTA MD 17C does anyone know anything about this engine? when it was made, how reliable and if you would recomend that buy one.

  6. Thanks for all the info magnetman. To be honest ill be mostly on the canals but if i could buy the ford 4d for less then the lister lpw3 should i get it?also would there be any problem attaching remotes for the excelerator and gears? thanks again.
  7. The engine would be going in a 30ft fibreglass lifeboat that weighs about 5 ton do you think it would be to powerfull for it?any idea what horse power the ford 4d has?
  8. Hi im thinking about buying an old ford 4d marine engine.Im not sure how old they are,i think they were made in the 60's. Does anyone know anything about these engines?I have read a bit about them and i think they were very good years ago but i wonder if they are still good today?Can anyone advise me weather i should buy one(it looks very well looked after)or should i get a more modern engine?there is also a lister lpw3 engine for sale,would this be better?
  9. Thanks for all the input.Sounds like I will have to spash out and go for the honda!I will be using it to run some light power tools and then maybe daily to charge my batteries.Also i would like to run my computer from it,so the Kippor is a no go?
  10. Hello im currently looking to buy a generator for my new boat.Does anyone know if there is much difference between a Honda EU10i and a Kipor KGE1000Ti? The honda is more expencive and a little quieter,is this the only important difference?Does anyone own ether of these generators or can anyone recomend one? Thanks,riiggs
