  1. Cheers for this, I'll aim to get to the boat over the weekend with a new battery and at least check the charging level. Am aware of Rugby and it was my aim to get past there when everything went wrong so will get there all being well by the following weekend. I'll be happy when I get to the GU as while I don't know the top end at least I'm on the home stretch. Happy if you want to come for the trip over Christmas ?
  2. Funny you should say that...I walked for about an hour to the local town to try and get some but alas, no shops were open that would have sold some as I had exactly the same idea! No worries, there is no major rush to get it back and I have 2 weeks off over Christmas so I'll take the dog and have a chilled out cruise, locks dependent of course.
  3. That's great, I'll keep in touch over the next couple of days
  4. Thanks AndyV it will be much appreciated, and yes it's just past the Tame Otter under the bridge. Not sure about the cause, the leisure battery's have been charging fine so I assume it's a dodgy battery. I believe the previous owner used as liveaboard in a Marina so probably didn't get much exercise. I'll will take a multi meter with me on Sunday! Which is the closest station by the way?
  5. Thanks Matt, will certainly bear you in mind. Well, didn't exactly go to plan. Ended up stuck outside the Tame Ferret pub in Hopwas as the battery died and couldn't get her to start Sunday morning. So, back to London for me and I'll buy a new battery and take it up at the weekend. If anyone is passing my boat and reading this please keep an eye on her (blue 35ft cruiser stern just past the pub, under the bridge on the left). Cheers everyone
  6. Was really good, beautiful weather on route, no issues except the boat was slowing down at one stage, bit of reverse sorted that, may have been leaves/weed around the prop perhaps. Sitting here now, just for the sound of fireworks
  7. The journey started this morning at 9am. Currently at Rugeley for the night before continuing in the morning.
  8. No, they were quite close to what is now known as stickler park!
  9. I would love to find one of these to restore over time. Apparently there are some buried close to West Drayton in a cutting just off the grand union. My grandad remembers them being moored there years ago and then cutting filled in.
  10. That's great, so glad it's still around rather than just another classic left to rot.
  11. Does anyone know if the boat that starred in one of the Minder programs, the one in which Arthur and Ray Daley were delivering videos I think, is still around?
  12. Thanks Peter, I really appreciate the trouble you have gone to to get me this information. I want to stay off the Thames if I can. I'll be on my own and in all honesty I'm not massively experienced but I'm sensible, will take as much safety gear as I can and not rush. Andy
  13. Thank you for all your help...wish me luck ?
  14. Is there a particular place you can check for closures? C&RT?
  15. Great, didn't know about canal planner. Cheers
  16. I'm going to bring a narrow boat from the Staffordshire canal down to West London, Packet Boat Marina in fact to live on and wonder if anyone has done this and how long it's likely to take to do? And finally what will be the route I'll be taking? I'll be doing it Friday evening to Sunday evening weekly due to my work commitments..oh, and I'm fairly new to the canal too and boats in general. Sounds like an adventure ahead ?
