Or any other remotely-accessible heating controller like a Nest -- also expensive, but cheaper than a Cerbo... 😉
Actually just seen its an Evo, so probably wont work..... stuck with Webastos own controllers??

If you have a Vicron Cerbo GX you can use that to switch it on/off from your phone...... expensive solution if you dont have it as part of your overall system though....

We just use something like this - come on automatically, can just stick on and no wiring needed... simples!

It was definitely quieter this year during the big six week hols in summer, but majority of hire boats did seem to be crewed by usually two couples of a certain age group, blokes on the back and ladies in the welldeck. Like you say, very few children, which is a shame.
I was 51 this year, am i officially an oldie now? Yay!

I'd hire rather than get involved with shares as you'll want your cruises to be in good weather (as much as possible!).... solves the bed linen issue also, plus you can hop about the country.....

I use one on my TV and sound bar in the caravan but the total current is only about 5amps.
Having said that are the power requirements you quoted from the sticker on the 230v > 12v adapters supplied with the TV/ROKU as that will be higher than required. Is the TV 4a or 18watts ?
If the Total wattage is 78w then you should be fine. If it's 9 amps then the PSU will get warm.
You need to check the consumption figures!
thanks, not got the monitor yet - arriving tomorrow so will be able to confirm those readings then...
thanks to all replies!!!

Hi All
I hope someone can help/confirm (or rip apart) my thinking here......
I'm finally upgrading my TV/Streaming box on the boat, mainly to get better sound using a Roku Soundbar. I've gone for devices that have 12v DC inputs but come with 240v mains adapters to make things as simple as possible. I'd like these to run off 12V rather than 240v.
The TV (monitor) is 12v 4A 18w requirements
The Roku is 12v 5A 60w requirements
I'm thinking getting a 8-40V to 12V 10A DC Voltage Stabilizer 120W which I'm thinking supplies enough juice to power both the above, so 12V input from the boat and both the above connecting on the output.... is this wise/sensible/possible!
the item is 8-40V to 12V 10A DC Voltage Stabilizer Car Power Supply Regulator Waterproof JP | eBay
any flaws in my plans???!!

That’s interesting - choice of reduced glare or reduced temperature!
Never had an issue with glare... but i have lots of solar panels on the roof!

When i repainted our roof i noticed a difference. it was a matt green and painted it with a green 'gloss' finish - the boat is now much cooler.

You don't intend to live on the boat so its leisure only? Thats quite an expense for something you haven't thought about in the past unless you've been mulling it over but frustrated by the lack of close mooring? Loads of single ladies on the cut....

I note that GS seem to supply a number of boatbuilders. Do they all have the daisy chained wiring? If so there must be a lot of narrow boats out there wired like this and we don't hear of fires or failures due to overloaded distribution board wiring.
That said, I would prefer to do it your way.
Given that all the components can be bought online, and there are plenty of places which will engrave traffolyte to your own design, are these premade panels any cheaper than DIY, especially for a bespoke panel?
there are 4 positive connectors from the positive daiychain so ample to go back to the bussbar to avoid overloading (top and bottom of each switch run)

Would be buying online so may not get that opportunity. . Actually assumed that they wouldn’t be wired at all to be honest.
Cheers. Seems a decent price.
the good thing is he'll etch the board for you and you can purchase spare switches/breakers etc.... i like this panel as there are no illuminated lights (its in the bedroom)....

If you've not seen these, - they are very good quality and Gary is happy to tailor to your requirements...

We have lights on the ceiling but never use them in lounge/galley/bedroom - just use wall lights as they give a nicer light...

All depends on what was used and how well it was welded. But you are better off without the tube!
<silly suggestion> cut the tube and you'll find out how well it was welded!

I need a cable crimper, are the cheap ones, about £16 to £30, for sale on eBay and Amazon any good?
This sort of thing:
This if my own occassional use, so needs to be adequate but is not going to be used everyday. Probably 35mm max.
I usually solder my big cables but am starting to feel like a threatened minority 🙂, and I need to redo the alternator cable which does run rather hot at times.
Used this for my battery cables, no issues and they work fine.

years ago is this the stuff they used to sell out of suitcases by travelling salesmen?

I'll never understand why they don't make a real charge for use of this.... £20/£50?
