  1. That’s a fair point as there will always be Boats for sale
  2. Looking north east there are rivers I could use with some wide canals but the 57 feet will allow me across the Pennines. I will only be in the marina upto retirement in two and a half years then definitely will be CC
  3. At the risk of tempting fate it’s looking like my house sale is going through as planned with contracts signed and back with solicitor. With completion date looming towards me I now really need to focus my attention to the two boats on my want as my New Home list. Yes they are not everyone choice as both are Widebeams at 12 feet. One is a 65 feet Aintree Boat already moored at the marina I intend using for the next two and a half years at which point I’ll retire and constantly cruise. The other is 57 feet Bluewater Boat but some 7 to 8 days sailing time from the marina. Both boats are less than 5 years old and have been fitted out and maintained to a high standard. The Bluewater Boat has had little use and is loaded with 1200 watt solar and a 8kv diesel generator built into the engine room, she also has a chined hull which I’m told will handle better than a standard flat bottom. Both boats have top quality central heating and double glazed throughout. My dilemma is this I love the extra length of the saloon on the 65 feet boat which when compared to the one in the 57feet makes that one look very small. But as it’s only me and my Labrador moving aboard should that matter?? As I know Widebeam waterways are drastically limited in comparison to narrow beams the 57 feet would allow me to travel across the Pennines where as the 65 feet keeps me to the north east waterways only. The Bluewater Boat will cost £2k less than the 65 feet and does have the generator, solar, and stainless steel water tank which like the fuel and waste where special ordered as larger than normal so reducing tank filling/emptying. My first issue was after selling my house I will not have the free time to sail the 57 feet to the marina as I run three businesses so at the moment that’s not an option but a very friendly Peterboat who I met two years ago when I first thought of boat life has kindly offered to sail her for me. So if you were in my position what would YOU do and NO I’m not going to change my mind and buy a narrowboat as much as I like them lol

  5. Yes so hence wanting it done near Notts
  6. This is for chopping into kindling sorry I didn’t make that clear but at £1 a bag which takes some lifting I reckon a bit of chopping isn’t much of an issue and the majority of what’s in the bag is thin and perfect to use as it is.
  7. Dry pine cones now theres a thought seeings I live in the beautiful county of Nottinghamshire with Sherwood Forest full of pine cones lol
  8. Pictures not loading for some reason?
  9. Not looking to start a debate on the actual use of kindling or any other kind of wood but was just wondering how much you would expect to pay for a potato sack full of very dry soft wood kindling like in the picture just so I have an idea what is the right price to be paying

  11. I’m buying a widebeam and yes there’s been a few jibes made but hey that’s exactly what I’d expect if we were all sat in the pub discussing wide vs narrow... it’s what makes forums work in my opinion... I may make a joke about you tube lovers but that’s all it would be.... I love narrowboats and follow 4 YouTube narrowboat vloggers weekly but the space is just not what’s right for me so yep mines going to be a fat boat and YES I’m restricted to going to lots of places and yes it will cost more to keep warm and Yes there will be countless advise/reasons given why I need to reconsider but hey as long as we are all talking/joking with each other the forum stays alive so beneficial to us all.
  12. Did day????? You been on the bottle all day ????
  13. Lol I knew there would be some smart s**t make a comment that’s why I love this group hey hey
  14. Lol Nowp just the wood ??????????????????
  15. As there’s loads and it’s free I just felt it’s a shame not to use it. I bought a large transit van jammed full of wood inc these conifer trunks off eBay and I bid just 10p as it had a start price of 1p and won the load so nice and cheap fuel
  16. As part of my pre boat preparation and the selling off of my house I’m busy sawing up my pile of 5 year seasoned wood for use occasionally on my multifuel stove. Most of what I have is apple and pear ranging from small sticks for kindling to nice logs 5 to 6 inch thick but Iv just uncovered about 10 lengths of conifer each is about 6 inch thick and 10 feet long and well seasoned... these would make a good stock of wood but unsure on how it be when burning? What’s your views? Is it worth sawing and bagging?
  17. DWell my house went on market and sold in first week via purple bricks but having been told buyer wanted to complete by end of July I boxed up all my stuff and handed a deposit to broker then three weeks later buyer dropped out as his buyer couldn’t get a morgage so luckily the deposit cheque wasn’t banked and my house went back on market. I asked broker to hold the cheque as a show of my intentions to buy but told him I understood the boat would go back on market. Two days ago our original buyer has instructed purple bricks he’s in a position to proceed and our house looks to be sold but for now I’m waiting to be sure before jumping up and down with joy. So I’m keeping busy sawing up my 5 year seasoned wood pile which should give me about 40 sacks of logs and a pile of kindling lol
  18. It was my favourite place at home out in my wood burning shed with a roaring fire and a larger or two into the early hours.... simply priceless
  19. Well I know a widebeam is far from everyone’s choice but having looked at countless boats narrow/plastic/wide I have decided even though there are restrictions on what waters I can cruise a widebeam its going to be.My house is on the market and viewings have started within first week so fingers crossed I’ll be done with bricks and mortar soon. So as part of my getting ready plan I have started sawing upmg large pile of 8 year seasoned wood most of which is apple and pear with a small amount of pine.my son is going to store it at the bottom of his garden under tarpaulins behind his garage well out of the weather so 12 bags of assorted size cut and I reckon another 30 to 40 to go. Just need a boat now.Just remembered I have a huge pile of plain wood off cuts I bought of eBay for 10p for a van load and it’s been weathered for 5 years so another 20 to 30 bags and when it’s all gone my friend works at a top end kitchen makers using best quality oak so there’s a constant supply of oak off cuts so I reckon there will be some cozy winter nights ahead
  20. Give Tony a call 07903 063179 tell him Martin recommend you call him
  21. How can I contact member 69 in the shade?
  22. To be fair that’s my intentions whilst for first 3 years whilst still at work I’ll live at Sawley Marina and when I’m getting near retirement I will be looking at what’s New on the solar and battery market as I feel sure these will be far better then than what’s available now and as I’m in no rush at moment I may as well get the benefit of better developments.
