Could anybody if they get a minute have a look at this boat I found on the Internet, I like the interior and the details are a little vague at the moment, as apparently it has just come onto the market, I contacted the marina and it's not with them at the moment they think it will be priced around 28K. Does anybody know anything about it. Many thanks http://www.nationwidenarrowboatsales.com/viewlisting2.php?id=283

Funny, but I imagine lots of red flags will have popped up at MI5- 46 replies

It's an interesting topic, lots of different points of view, I suppose you make your boat as secure as you can so you sleep well at night- 46 replies

Then that's good enough, I just wanted to maximise the usage from the fuel -

Interesting point that motohomes are more of a target for burglary theft than narrow boats,- 46 replies

Interesting, have you lived on the canal for along time, I did read a blog that an experienced canal user carries a piece of wood the same size as a window, in case thugs decide to put a brick through the window which has apparently happend.- 46 replies

I wouldn't have thought so you are far more likely to be able to secure a house or property than a boat, and I would've thought you're pretty exposed along a secluded towpath.- 46 replies

Could I ask, what safety precautions do members that live on permanent moorings that are on public towpaths take, I was just wondering how safe people feel, all members comfortable with having full-size windows and glass panel doors, or would they prefer portholes and steel doors, for the safety of themselves and of their beloved boat. Thanks I hope it's not too much of a strange question !

Multifuel cooking stove, opinions please
Toby knight replied to Toby knight's topic in New to Boating?
Thanks all great points, I will stick with a boatman, although I'm surprised more stoves don't come with a small oven, as it would be so handy -

Thanks I think I'll stick to a squirrel or a boatman -

I have to use dictation and it can be difficult Poor eyesight also I'm not sure I found the website by accident, and just wondered if anybody else had ever considered it -
Yes been looking at it for months, seen a few, but I think it will be impossible to get everything I'm looking for in a boat, I'll find one that feels good and has most of the things I'm looking for, and make changes to it

Sorry salon of a narrow boat 'my auto correct didn't recognise the word' -

That did cross my mind, I suppose I might be being over cautious, Engine broken down middle of winter, heating broken down, freezing cold, gas run out or stolen, starving . I suppose you can't cover for every eventuality, if you get my meaning -
Thank you you all make excellent points, and sense I think it will be a secondhand boat to start, as I originally wanted, I love the old wood look something that has been cared for over the years.

Multifuel cooking stove, opinions please . I've seen this stove on the Internet and I wondered whether it would be possible or if anybody has never fitted one into the son of the narrowboat, my thoughts thinking that it would be more eco-friendly can economic to get maximum use from the fule being burned. Squirrels seem to be popular, and expensive I also like the idea of the Boatman stove, what are other peoples opinions please http://www.modernstoves.co.uk/duo-multi-fuel-cooker-stove.html

Great point !

Yes Martin, it would be used in winter, that's the reason for the stove also, it has to be said they do look great even Considering the ash and soot

Thanks all you've been most helpful, I've seen this boat, it's seems reasonable and for a good quality secondhand boat and comparable, It is the kind of boat I'm looking for the only thing it's missing a hatches and a multifuel stove, any thoughts? http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/113707929/new-narrowboat-for-sale.html

Could I ask a question please, what are experienced members thoughts on purchasing a new boat compare to a relatively expensive second-hand, the reading I have done suggests that the steel in new boats that are built today I'm not as durable, as the boats that have been built say 10 years 15 years ago. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
