  1. No, I'm afraid it didn't work, nothing in my inbox. :/

Hi Ally sent another PM but not sure why it isn't working. The boat is beautiful and I doubt will have to go to brokerage. I suspect it will be way above our budget but if they are looking for between £45 to 50k then I would be most definitely interested.....cash waiting in sweaty hands....

  2. You have missed my point, which sometimes happens with the written word, I was trying to illustrate that some advice /comments help one to make a decision, e.g. mine regarding Liverpool Boats, I wasn't specifically criticising anyone else's choice or indeed their boat, I'm sure some people still have 3 wheel Reliant Robins and swear by them and, of course, when you join a forum like this, there are always the purists who you can never please. I once owned a VW Campervan which I bought from America. When it arrived it was pristine and really too good to drive and get damaged so I took it to a few of the big shows and kept winning 1st prize. It had articles in magazines about it and featured in a TV program. I fitted, in the engine bay, a small modern foam device to wipe the dipstick on and this caused the greatest concern/debate/ridicule, you would have thought I was the Anti Christ. I paid £20k for it and repeatedly received offers to buy it so 6 mths after I bought it I sold it for £40k, the guy who bought it wasn't bothered about the foam oil wiper!!!!!

  3.

Perhaps, then, you would like to write everyone's scripts for them. In the meantime, I'll write my own:

I find this remark sarcastic and unnecessary, I joined this forum as I am new to boating, my logon name says it all. I was hoping to gain advice and positive, constructive comments from people who have far more experience than I. Isn't that the idea of any 'forum' ? I have certain criteria which I accept is subjective but I have already learnt certain things for example, a Liverpool Hull is not something I would consider given the views I have found on here and elsewhere, so that has been helpful & constructive knowledge. Just because someone feels they have more experience and knowledge it should not be an excuse to be rude....

  4.

I take your point - perhaps I should have simply stated 'stove'.

I love my MX40, but once it's done its job of heating the calorifier and cooking the boat (!) it starts to cycle and I get worried about it coking up. Even at 'only' 4Kw it feels too big to maintain the temperature.

If and when we cruise out of season, we find the stove just keeps the boat comfortably topped up and uses little wood.

A better suggestion would be an oil fired stove, no mess, no noise.

You criticise folks for not being constructive - but if you only give a bald statement - without what you want the boat to do -

    Liveaboard

    Cruising style

    Off season use

    Pets, kids, visitors

    Lifestyle - electric consumption

    and on and on

All the above and probably more would help respondents tailor their replies??

No I didn't criticise, I was just hoping for more objective comments, I didn't ask if people like it or not. Also when I joined this forum I stated what I was looking for, extensive holidays, just 2 of us, can't see the relevance of pets although we do have a dog......... forums are funny things!!!

  5. Well I have spoken with the broker and suggested what price range I would be looking before I drive 4 hrs to see it!!! at and he has given me a figure from the owners which is a substantial discount so it could make it worthwhile. As to a stove, when we moved up her in the Welsh hills we had a woodburning central heating system. For four years we fed the monster. We purchased some land from the Church next to us and they cut down a dozen or so trees (50 to 60ft pines) and a couple of Oaks which they said we could have.............. we had to cut it and stack it etc and it barely lasted 18mths....so from my own perspective if I never saw another stove I would not be botheredbiggrin.png We changed to oil this year saving 2/3rds of the cost and it is clean & dust free...........sorry I digressed.....wacko.pngwacko.png Any views on Hixon Hulls???

  6. Wow I thought this boat buying was difficult & I admit I am naïve but there is the full gambit of opinions.............maybe I should look elsewhere but how do you find one that ticks all the boxes without travelling the length and breadth of the country? I have noticed that a few I have marked of interest have sold fairly quickly so someone must be doing it right!!!!! unsure.png

  7. The guy who owns it is a marine surveyor. He is offering 6mths mooring or moved to wherever I want for free. Although it is a bit basic inside the description (albei a bit flowery) if accurate is what we are looking for, something in good shape that we can make our own. I can't view till December but his offer sounds good.....so I will let you know. Thanks for the comments.

  8. Thanks for the comments. It isn't an ex hire boat it was built for the first owners. The sofa converts to a double bed and is actually good quality leather and, with the addition of a few cushions, quite comfortable although we would probably replace it with a couple of chairs. There is plenty of room for a table & chairs, don't know about the kitchen curtains but the bedroom has porthole covers, as to the rail it doesn't really bother us in fact there is a small child gate that fits across which would be great if we wanted to keep the dog inside. The engine is immaculate, one of the engineers on site showed it us and it started first time and was surprisingly quiet. As I said it has a full service history, blacked every two years and every detail noted. It' s early days yet but of what we have seen in that price range it ticks all the boxes even though I originally said we wanted reverse layout once inside it feels ok. I will keep you updated............

  9. Hi again

having asked the basic questions everyone asks I would like to hear anyone's view on this boat which is my no1 choice at the mo. Went to see it at the weekend and it is a good looking well fitted boat with a full service history (A4 binder 6inches thick down to each nut & bolt purchased) Two owners from new with 2nd only owning for 2 yrs. The only problem I can see is that it lilts to one side but the broker said that could be because they have taken out furniture etc?? not sure about that one. Anyway any thoughts/comments appreciated. Still can't work out why boat prices vary so much but hey!!!help.gif

  10. Wow thanks for the warm welcome and advice I know a lot is common sense and personal choice but it is always good to hear other people's point of view. I appreciate all the comments made and will certainly not rush into anything although I would hope to have purchased something by early spring next year and, as I said, we will be using it extensively eg. a month onboard a week or two home and then a month onboard again. I am more interested in the history/condition of the boat/engine rather than it looking like the Ritz so on that basis can I ask:

ex hire or not? It's just we have seen a couple well within our price bracket with the layout we want and it would leave us the funds to 'personalise' it if we wish.

    Thanks again

    Paul

ps how to I contact Monty40s??rolleyes.gif
