  1. surely a 12v computer monitor would make more sense? I know life with out the xbox can be hard on all, iv been offline for 12 months now, iv had to read books pick up my guitar again and all manner of strange things!!! will you be cruising or mooring up at a marina?
  2. i can sort out a few pics in the next couple of days, its not pretty yet but it will get there. i dont know much about moorings either, what will a non residential mooring cost annually?
  3. at present im only looking to use it on canals, but hopefully when my youngest leaves college id like to live on it for a year so it would be nice to have the power to manage rivers as well. its my first boat, got it off ebay as a shell for £200 as a winter hobbie 2yrs ago and still havnt put it on the water yet, iv got a bit more fibre glassing to do externally before i get the gas works in and get it tested. id like to see it on the water by the spring time but still have no ideas what it need to be water worthy, i know i need the safety test to get it insured but it hasnt got any external lights or any electrics on it at all yet except the bilge pump.any advice would be usefull
  4. hi, just a quick one - iv got a norman 23' that iv altered abit to make it habitable, raised the roof and lenghened the cabin so it would be a bit heavier than normal, what size outboard will i need to move it about?
  5. Heres how it looks now,i will never make it off the canal as i dont get more than 4 days off in a row,do you think the extra height will have much affect? Also wondering if i will need a transom plate with the extra weight of the double glazing and a burner?
  6. Hiya,I looked them both today for pricing,Houdini hatches cost nearly as much as my boat!! Good idea though as the whole is already there. The Anderson hatch turned out to be an escape hatch for a bomb shelter!! Iv used the whole windows frames as well so I'll have trickle vents to help with condensation. Will any kind of fast release hatch do it?
  7. Thank you guys. I cut the roof off, built a subframe at the right height dropped it back on,put in a couple of double glazed windows, filled the rest out with plyboard and fibre glassed it back together.its not as pretty as I would have liked but far more functional. I will have to look up a Houdini hatch, have no idea what it is,and thanks for the bss info, that's useful
  8. Hello,I'm new to boating but I picked up a gutted Norman 23 cabin cruiser for 200 quid and as a project to keep me out of mischief iv raised the roof so I can stand upright and extended the cabin so I can fit a loo in.it has a hatch opening cut out of the deck which I have been told is an Anderson hatch for escaping and that I need to have it, is this true or can I just make it a sealed window? I'm likely to have a lot of questions in the next month or so as I'm trying to get it on the water before Xmas and have no knowledge about canal boats at all!!!
