  1. Probably but better than what I had, fitted where suited me and cost me £100 inc 3 x 200a shunts. Yes more of a 'monitor' than a 'management' panel but with the small people using lots of amps it gives me a far better idea than I never had before...
  2. I'll try and answer all the above in one rather than lots of quotes.... I fitted it so I had the benefit of an aH counter, I'm happy with it because it does that - seemingly very accurately. Yes it doesn't actually manage Power but it gives you the tools to assist in managing power. I didnt previously have an ammeter anywhere or a digital voltmeter on any battery set. This gives me all of that in one, I'm yet to put port and starboard batteries through it but will be soon and will be a useful voltmeter. Channel 4 counts amps in and out so I can see the -ve used and also see when the batteries are approaching full via the amp counter which will be a useful guide with the assistance of the ammeter functionality I never previously had. One meter that does all I want it to and more in one small box rather than what would ultimately amount to three ammeters and three voltmeters on my dash and that still leaves me a spare channel for future.... did i mention it was cheap....???
  3. I can't comment on the aH counter alament yet as I've not really had the chance to test off the shore supply for any substantial period. The amps however seem very accurate, almost bang on readings with my fluke clip on. You'd think based on that the counter should be fine but you never know with these little boxes of stuff.....
  4. Just thought I'd share - I'm rather pleased with how it went..... it may not be perfect or the most expensive but I picked it up on eBay last year sometime for a bargain so am rather happy with it..... ??
  5. Does anyone know if there is punp out at or close to gunthorpe? Marina or otherwise.... (cleverly disguised as a bump post.....ah not so much) thanks Dave
  6. I'm specifically interested in pump out facilities in this direction folks....Currently at Hazleford heading towards Nottingham.....
  7. My mistake I should probably have written Gunthorpe Lock 7 on the River Trent - wasn't aware of another...sorry everyone...
  8. Hi Phil, This is sort of the reason I'm asking....this info is not correct - there is water and (limited) waste disposal at Hazleford Lock for instance that doesn't show on here as well as Water Points at Newark & perhaps others I'm unaware of.... Canalplan should show that the nearest water, waste disposal and elsan disposal are at Gunthorpe itself...but I have heard the elsan is no longer available but conversely heard there is a pump out facility there...I was hoping for input from regular visitors to Gunthorpe...
  9. Hiya, Planning a little trip.. Someone has told me there is a pump out facility at Gunthorpe but I've not seen anything in my book or CRT (lol) maps...is this correct and if so where, how etc? Also read there are next to no facilities left at Gunthorpe (being sold off?) is this correct as I think my book shows toilet at Elsan disposal....just cautious of where we plan our stops based on the available info in print and online etc... Many thanks, Dave
  10. thanks Joe...that's exactly where I'm hoping to move to. My little Atlanta is there but I've never had any (obviously) issues with that in height of depth. I've just pulled in the car park to do some fettling..... Cheers Dave
  11. Agreed, and I was thinking similar after posting. But left unattended it would've been a fine mess....
  12. Sorry Alan - obvious now. And yes totally agree...thank you again.
  13. .....and obviously turn off your water pump when not aboard.... Sat here reading through the forums. I hear a gush of water going overboard and the water pump going to the dozen....only blown a water pipe off in the engine bay for the hot water tank....that I can only think would not have been pretty had I been away from the boat or worse - asleep....
  14. Hello again Alan - thank you for your reply. Forgive my ignorance to these things DYOR? Cheers Dave
  15. Still....the opinion of Stirling doesn't appear to be great...
  16. I have two 6 cylinder ford Lehmans so in theory I can both push the tide and keep a good pace. I've not though worked them hard since purchasing the boat and always been happy plodding up and down the Trent so not sure how they go on temp wise when under stress so to speak. Thank you for the info and links I'll check them out when next at a computer. cheers Dave
  17. Thank you for sharing your experience regardless ?
  18. Hi I've read quite a bit on here and elsewhere about the tidal trent etc but wanted to get some input about my specific trip. i'm particularly interest in duration and timing so I can take time off work etc. I've also read a bit about poor lock keeper advice recently about tide times etc...particularly Cromwell and the lockie at Keadby expecting people earlier than practicable. planning to move my 33ft cruiser, twin shafts from just below Newark on the Trent to Goole, probably via the Keadby - height allowing to avoid Trent Falls and the Ouse Any help or advice appreciated whether that be via The Keadby or Ouse. Thanks
  19. Tvm- if I'm honest I don't entirely remember. I thinks it's just a single span bridge....
  20. Thanks for that I'll check for the bridge height....about the lowest income across round here is the bridge just before (or after depending on direction) Newark Town Lock
  21. I'm only 33ft....I'm more worried the bottom may be too close to the top. I need to check any bridge heights on the Keadby - but don't fancy Trent Falls. I'm sure it's ok just daunting as a first timer... I've read lots of negative stuff about lock-in advice recently coming off the Trent and upto Keadby lock. I need to speak to lots of people on here and my mooring etc etc and be very clear what's what... thanks for your response... ?
  22. Now cringing at the thought of what I had believed to be reasonable quality Stirling inverted charger sat inches from me....in my defence I didn't choose it, it was fitted in the boat when I boat it.... eeeeek
  23. Thanks guys....and at the risk of pushing my luck.... if taking route to Goole via the Keadby rather than Trent falls and down to Goole(I've never done trent falls, and despite the boat being capable I'm not quite sure I am yet) would that be ok too? I have to admit I've never ventured on to the Keadby with any of my boats despite often passing the lock whilst on the new junction toward Doncaster. thanks again Dave
  24. Hi everyone I'm in the final throes of considering moving my second boat to live at goole with my smaller (soon to sold hopefully) Atlanta. The move is purely cost driven as it's currently on the Trent... mt question what are water depths currently like in this area? I know exol pride had been back running for a while but have read she doesn't run fully laden due to depth issues but not sure where. I draft Around 3ft with the shafts, I've seen some of the larger boats tie up at the end of the New Junction and I've seen how shallow it can be close to the edge in places on the new junction but just curious as to what I could be looking at in terms of cruising distance....assuming I clear heck bridge.... many thanks
  25. Hi Thank you for your swift responses. I think you have confirmed all the things I was worried about. It appears the moorings at Bleasby have some considerable rise on the pontoons it all seems quite new. But your comment ref checking it every day is the reality check really. I live circa 35 miles away from Newark (mines currently at Farndon) and the logistics of checking it every day for damage, and being well secured just aren't feasible. At least in its current home the likelihood of damage in the marina is much reduced. The consideration to move is a financial one with a few strains at the moment but not worth the risk in this instance. thanks all.
