Just to add a land dweller's costs to the discussion.

We have  a small bungalow of about 750 sq ft.  Our heating is on 0500hrs to 2300 hrs every day. we are both at home all day.  Settings are about 18c to 20c in the day and about 22c n the evenings.  We have a budget account and pay an even £20 per week for gas (heating and cooking) and electric all year, so approx £1000 p/a.  Obviously winter costs are higher thn summer but are spread out. Our latest bill was erly December, Gas = £121, Electric = £96.

The replies so far give no indication of the size of boat/area the OP and others are heting.

Wow expensive, my boat is a Narrowboat  60ft..

Over the years I've discovered most people are not honest about their fuel usage or spend the winter wrapped in layers of thermals while shivering.

We use 65 bags every winter but are only ever dressed in T-shirts, we only have a 4 tog duvet and we enjoy the winter in a toasty boat

I could forage for wood, Lord knows we have plenty of fallen trees around here but I choose to stay in the warm .

I remember having this conversation with a near neighbour who claimed he only used 30 bags but neglected to mention all the sacks of logs he bought and transported past my boat in a dinghy

I must be a mesh bugger.

    Or your doing something different.

I thought your boat used about £50 of diesel just to turn it around? :)

    What do you mean?

I've been using around 8 litres of diesel per day on average.  Diesel drip-fed heating running 24/7 set at low (around 14C) mostly and medium (21C) evenings.  3.5x11m area and I have poor insulation at the moment due to refitting.    Also around 10-15hours of diesel generator per week.

    That's good.

Searching Google for a body warmer.:-(

I don't keep count but use about 4 quid a day in fuel so not much different to you then. My boat is always warm ( very ) all day and I let fire burn slowly all night. You may be like me and actualy have a properly warm boat. I go on others and they are in my opinion often cold and the fire isn't glowing bright red through the glass. My boat is well insulated and fitted so this helps.

    Thank God another Warmy.

£4.25 a day in Coal. Here.

  5. Not sure how to reply on on this new system but yes it is a lot of coal this year, ladyG 'hot cider that would put my gas bill up. Lol

Maybe another critter under the Duvae might bring the cost down.

Dr Bob, my dad stuck his finger in the Eco Fan and bent the pin shaft while saying 'where's the blades' , they go invisible while spinning.

  6. Lol.

You responded by implying I had been too impatient in replying, incidentally I don't expect people to reply quickly.. Mind reading is not one of my many talents so how was I to know you were in the bath?

You take things too personally. I replied to a whatever as I find them tedious and to be honest a little infantile. It could have been John or anyone else. It just happened to be you and the statement about the LIbdems happened to be true. I felt with your commendable concern for the MH services of this a country it was an even sillier than usual use of whatever so I replied to the post. I doubt John felt the need for your apology either.

Sorry if you felt I was getting at you personally.

Hey it does not all have to be serious we can mix a bit of light humour in even on the most serious topics.

Anyway I dont need your approval to what I post get off my case, if you want to call me infantile use the pm function and lets chat about it, please dont broadcast it on the main forum.

When did you become Johns spokes person ?

Added : taking things too personal is a symptom of my mental health issues, you seem to of targeted me for one single word 'whatever', and as for saying I should tell people before I go for a bath when using a forum G Whizz are you for real ?

  7. I am well aware of John and his whatever and as I say that is how it comes over to me no matter who posts it.

Incidentally you must put in a post when you are going for a bath otherwise I won't know and will reply when I read the post. A bit like I suspect you do, see something and reply. That is how forum discussions go.

Ive seen a lot worse than a whatever on this forum, maybe its because I am new you picked me out, I have appologized to John.

ps I am going to the loo, so if you dont see another reply its because I am Bizzy with something.

    is that better.?

  8. In all fairness Libdems have always been strong on Mental Health for example here is a document from 2012 long before any election https://fullfact.org/factchecks/mental_health_patients_equal_rights_timely_treatment-28614

in all fairness I give you that one and appologize for the whatever response it was a bit rude of me.

Maybe all the leaflets coming through my front door from Party Mp's promising the world have jaded my views on politics and the loss of a freind who took her own life after being made homeless by ruthless benefit removal.

    Sorry

  9. As strange reply to somebody pointing out that not all political parties hadn't forgotten mental health. They may not have done as much as you would like or made enough "noise" about it in your opinion, but what John says is fact.

"Whatever" in my experience is the reply of somebody who is unprepared to accept a point but having no proof it is wrong.

Just they way your "Whatever" came over to me.

if you had given me a chance to reply and get out of the bath you would of seen why I wrote whatever.

    whatever!

  10. It's true, they did and still do on a local level. My Boss was responsible for a lot of legislative change in child care and Mental health services. She was also a LibEem councellour.

But was that just to get votes coming up to the general election, how many partys campaign all of a sudden to gain a vote in their box.

    Sorry for being negative

I took it as Brassedoff parodying cotswoldsman's habit of doing exactly that!

I just gave cotswoldman the same dismissive response he gives me after ive posted a sensible post.

    What goes around comes around.

  11. Brassedoff, keep posting, you make more sense than many on here, I can't believe your post count for such a short while that you have been a member, seems like you have been here forever.

    Phil

haha thanks Phil, i need to get out more i think

it feels like forever as well help.gif

  12. As Wanted said fast improvements in rough sleepers could be gained with better funding for Mental Health Services and Substance Misuse.

The biggest problem i am seeing day in day out is people being found fit for work while still under the mental health services but they are totally unfit for work, quite simply they have all their benefits removed from them including disability living allowance or PIP and also their ESA (support group) allowance which then leaves them with no right to claim full housing benefit or council Tax. = Homeless with serious MH Issues.

The goverment wants to cut down on the above benefits and Increase the number of people in work which i understand, but removing the above benefits from really poorly people is putting a lot of people onto the streets and pushing people into despair and often suicide.

What gets me is the goverment trys to promote better understanding of mental health Issues but with the other hand they are putting these very people onto the streets, they are corrupt as hell and so is Channel 4 Telivision for promoting hate towards people who are claiming benefits, they often only show the people who are taking the p1ss out of the benefits system and not the seriously ill.

i promise not to post anymore on this.

    Rant Over LOLargue.gif

  13. They probably tag along with the immigration police who stop people based on what they look like...

its totally wrong but thats the way they work.

For someone who has had mental health issues, you seem to be one of the sanest on here!

Fanks lol, will you tell my Psychiatrist that sick.gif

We have been without television for 9 weeks and it has been a blessing, I have not missed it one bit as far as the 'News' is concerned.

My life would have been duller without 'Fawlty Towers' and 'The Young Ones' and 'Inspector Morse', though.

Tellyvision = Jellyvision (your brains turn into jelly, geddit??!!)

I dont blame you for that, faulty towers / only fools and horses makes far more sense than the news lol.

anyway i better go to bed you lot, night.

  14. I can't imagine the BBC commissioning a serious survey into this anyway. I've had two phone calls this week from the BEEB wanting to do interviews about immigration and homeless, each time they were coming from a stance of it being a problem for the country and not a problem for the person, for that reason I declined.

Thats the same stance the Goverment try to flog everyone, manipulating hate rather than a soluntion to help them in need.

I dont know how they can carry out an acurate survery of who is homeless / illegal, a lot of people are hidden out of view of the public or squatting in buildings. i could just imagine the BBC walking down the street with a clip board ticking boxes.
