I have wondered that about Tuttle Hill (which is a stretch of offside moorings) too - I haven't seen those spaces advertised and I wonder if CART is trying to close it down.

Springwood Haven used to have a quite long waiting list, not sure if it still has.

Martyn, you say that you saw one suitable mooring advertised.. Why didn't you take it?

Athy, I was outbid, unfortunately I was in hospital when the auction ended, reckon I had more important things on my mind at the time.

  2. Due to health issue and the need to attend hospital at Coventry several times a week I decided 18 months ago that I would try and move my mooring from Braunston to Coventry (around Hawksbury) I spoke to the mooring manager and asked to be kept informed of any vacancies that were likely to come up. I watch the CRT website virtually daily and in all that time I think there has been only one suitable vacancy advertised. I do find this really odd as the number of boats moored in this area is pretty large, surly there should of been some movement in this length of time. Has anyone else had a similar experience or can give me their thoughts on this. Thanks Martyn.

  3. Ray,

When we went down to Banbury a few months ago we saw contractors pruning on the offside from Napton onwards resulting in very effective widening at many tight points. Did you notice if anything has been done between Napton and Braunston?

There has been some severe pruning work done around Braunston a few weeks ago, I don't know how far they went though

  4. Yes I live aboard and have done for the past 4 years but my situation has changed during the past 18 months. I have squirrel fire in my 60ft boat which will stay.

I unfortunately have an illness, which, one of the side effects is that my immune system is very low, I'm therefore trying to minimise some potential health problems by ensuring the rear of the boat (bedroom & bathroom) remains at a decent temperature during cold weather.

  5. Hi Mike, I was advised to look at diesel system but to be honest I didn't really understand a lot of what was said and I have no experience of any of the alternatives, which is why I asked for help on here, I'm not the most technically minded person I'm afraid. Cheers

  6. I would like 2 radiators fitted in the rear of my narrowboat (bedroom and bathroom) I haven't got any idea of the sort of heating system I need, can anyone advise as to what I need and possibly give me a ball park figure as to costs please. Many thanks Martyn.

  7. I understand that they have some good offers at Dunchurch if you are prepared to commit to being there for a bit of time. This is from a friend who is going in when they open saving against what he paid in the area last year.

Is your friend going to live aboard? Just wondered what their view is and are they allowing it.

  8. On my cruiser stern I have a large block of wood that I use when splitting logs into smaller sticks. A couple of months ago I noticed, what appeared to be sawdust around the base, which I thought odd, I swept this and it returned within a few days, on taking a closer look there is a hole around a quarter of an inch across that it was coming from. Sitting on the deck a few days ago I watched as a few wasp's were going in and out. Now, I need to move my boat next week for blacking, any suggestions on what to do? Don't fancy moving with them angry buggers next to me. The block is pretty heavy so would not move easily and I don't know what's underneath, could be another exit whole! What do you think?

  9. I went to clean my chimney today, which I do annually and noticed that the top half of the chimney had virtually rotted away. This was only put on late last year and although I live aboard, due to serious illness, was away from the boat for at least half of the winter so the fire, a squirrel, was only used for a limited time. What concerns me is the heat that must of been generated to cause this cannot be normal. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions as to the cause, many thanks.

  10. I badly need to repaint the roof on my narrowboat and after reading various articles on the subject I am still really confused on the best type of paint to use. I have seen garage floor paint, smooth masonry paint, amongst others recommended, can someone please give me their opinion as to what to use as I cannot afford to get it wrong and have to re-do it. I'm looking to paint it in a cream type colour. Thanks for your help.
