  1. Being new to this site I am baffled as to how to use it. I found Jon's details, clicked on Send me a message', filled in my message, clicked Send, received message saying Jon cannot receive messages. I looked again where it said Send me a message' details below - no details below? My message was: Hi John As a new member I am baffled as to how to use the site (and to be honest all other Chat room sites too). I posted a topic entitled MOORINGS IN FRANCE but cannot find it if I put it into the Search bar. How do I find replies to that posting please? I welcome your advice and guidance please. Gordon (El Gordini) ps I don't even know how to find your reply to this message Can any patient member guide a lost soul through this please? Thanks in advance.
  2. Many thanks to all those that replied, much appreciated advice. Gordon
  3. I have read a reasonable amount about navigating a lock, single handed, by rope but would like the advice/experience of members on how best to navigate a lock with a bridge over the lock/canal by rope. I ask this because it means not having to climb the lock ladder, which on really deep locks looks pretty daunting. Any videos showing this would be ideal please.
  4. Hi to all those who commented and thank you for such useful advice. My situation is that I hope to purchase a narrow boat (57ft) am single and have had 2 knee replacements so am not keen on climbing up a lock ladder. I tried to understand in the comments how people got back on their boat when it is at the bottom of the lock either uphill or downhill or do they stay on the lock side and handle it totally by ropes?
