  1. Wind up

    For: free, non-polluting,always available, exercise.

Against: laziness, delay in available use.

In Nottingham you may be lucky with electrical supply etc. but here in deepest Gloucestershire we have power cuts and s*ds law states the batteries will be flat, or I forgot to recharge the torch from the last time.

The technology was invented to aid countrys without our sophistication ie. Africa.

The idea was originaly for education purposes and the radios were also made in Africa so helping their people earn a wage.

We probably don't need them in this country but the technology is useful.

  2. Hi. :D

To maximise space and have the advantage of a 4ft 6ins bed we are going to fit a cross bed. I am intending having a 6mm. ply. slide out extension locating on probably a 2x1ins. "L" shaped batten screwed on the hull side.

Does this sound O.K. or as anybody any better ideas.

                                    Cheers.

                                                Johnb.

As Chris said 6mm could be a bit thin, but it will only be used for for your feet. There again if you sit on itEeeeeek.gif The idea is sound but perhaps something a little thicker would be better.

  3. Everyone is discussing the twin schilling rudder but if you use the links there are three different versions: the twin, the single with controlable tail and the one that might be best for narrow boats the single fixed tail.

By looking and reading the articles, I believe , there could be a possibility of them working on any boat especially for low speed manouvering.

  4. I am beginning to think it is probobly the TV, which works fine on 12volt, but the reason I got the inverter is so that I can have a 14" screen and possibly a Combi TV, Which cost a fortune if you go for 12volt. The best price I could find was about £280 whereas an Inverter and 14" Combi is only about £125.

I forgot ito mention in my earlier posting that the buzzing which occurs when it is run on the inverter is not from the speaker, but from inside the TV itself.

Many dual voltage TVs are actually low voltage models that when run on 240volts have a transformer inside to reduce the voltage to its "normal" working voltage. It may be the internal transformer giving the buzz because it does not "like" the non pure sine waveDunno.gif

  5. I assume that a 'fishtail' refers to the steering operating a small 'tab' on the rear of the rudder which acts as a servo and deflects the rudder in the opposite direction.

    Alan

Fish tail applys to the shape of the rudder, when veiwed in plan section and is very like a fish in shape, the way children tend to draw them.

    Put "schilling rudder" in google.

The rudder is used mainly by barges, tugs and big ships for extra manouverability at SLOW speeds.

    Pictures on the other discussion.

  6. Nice straight forward question

When in residential mooring do you have to pay local council tax?

Nice straight forward answer: whenever they ask for it Smokin.gif

On some Marinas it is included in the rental, the marina owner is charged, and on others you pay it separately. You may be able to get a refund, if you pay your own, and can prove you were not at the marina for a length of time ie. cruising. Idea.gif

  7. I know an option on the Aqualine is 240volt alternator and / or a 2500watt inverter which is best? Both or one or the other?

I would go for both, the alternator would be used whilst traveling and also give a greater wattage, I expect you do not say its rating, you may need to run the engine for a heavy load like a washing machine.

The Inverter would be used in the evening and not disturb the neighbours. Zzzz.gif

  8. Thanks to you all

Even if some went a little Off-Topic.gif

From all thats been written, A balanced tiller in the shape of an aerofoil would be best.

As John extended his forwards it made the steering lighter but if he had gone to far I think steering a straight line would have been more difficult.
