A brilliant idea but.......
Might it not freeze very easily in cold weather. You try it because if it works for a year I will follow!
Dave
You can buy little jackets for a tap. They sell in DIY stores.

Could this be the start of raising the duty/tax to equal road fuel? (rhetorical)

This is the vicar that was on "waterworld" (central tv) He had no idea what he was doing.
He did most of the work himself to build the boats and if they were meant to be hotel boats well!!!!
I think he was hoping for a miracle from his God.
Before the PC brigade starts I have no time for religion of any type.

OUTSIDE TAP ! .........Sweet baby Jesus !
why dont you tow a butty filled with topsoil, and put a lawn , shed , and patio on it ? .......... Must go , the vicars coming round for sherry.
Thats a very good idea you could also have a

How is it of topic, I was enquiring whether it was possible to burn coal nuts on the squirrel stove. Sorry you could not understand I should have made it plainer.

Health & safety is always banded around and it is needed for those to frighted or harrased to speak.
We all should take our own responsibility for our own and others health and safety.
Risk assessment is another one, if its risky don't do it. If you are told to do something risky ask the person, doing the telling, to show you how it should be done. If they will not then why should you.

When did you last turn the greaser.

Can you burn nuts on a sqirrel.

I was thinking about it but could not afford the drop in pay.

Well, I've just booked the boat so the East Midlands Ring is definately on! The only word of warning I was offered about the trip was to be wary of Leicester...is that fair? That being said, I remember braving the Cheshire Ring in a hectic week back in the Eighties and I can't believe it could match the Rochdale Nine for intimidating grimness!
There are some "safe" mooring on the offside, non towpath, difficult to see but it is a floating pontoon next to the park/gardens. A BW key is required to leave the pontoon and enter the park/gardens.
We tied up to the towpath for a couple of hours around lunch time and wandered into town but it was term time.
My philosophy is; If worrying about a problem will not solve it,do not worry about it.
There are lots of stories about vandalism, it does happen, but not as much as we are led to believe. (chinese whispers)

Julia
Welcome to the forum, you started well, at the errrrrr bottom, and it did not take long to wander of your subject, like we always do, has any of this solved your problem.

Chris
I can assure you where I live the surface water goes straight into the sewer from my house and all the others in my road. We do not have soak aways if we did we could reduce our water rates as we are charged for said removal.
-
Well!!!!
By the use of this forum it looks like BW is getting everything right or are they. .

Once it leaves the house it is all mixed just lift the nearest manhole cover.
There are houses built near us, in the 1930's, where all surface water is collected in a sump under the house for use in the garden etc. Of course a pump was needed and these were the old hand pump.
There is nothing new in this world.

where did that information come from? I hope this is just another bad rumour.
Chris
It could have been in one of the boating magazines, thats where I get much of my info, apart from here.

I thought that there was going to be a stop on grey water being pumped overboard.
A grey tank would not have to be very large, if my caravaning days are a guide, it was quite surprising how much water was used but how little went into the waste tank.

Major
Do not worry unnecessaryly about the weirs most are protected so you will not go over them. I did not intend to cause concern for you just to be aware that they are there.
Fore warned is fore armed.

Why do we in this country use good clean drinking water to flush our loos, why not use grey water. Has anybody got a grey water system on their boat.

...slightly worrying about the River Soar
Went on the soar two years ago, no problems, they were updating the warnings to a traffic light system, Red do not go, yellow go with caution if you wish too, green go.
It is a wonderful stretch of water I would recommend it. Hope it stays dry.
We traveled on yellow, just be aware of the weirs that take you sideways, keep away from them and watch for oncoming boats.

They did say sometime in the next decade, by then I will possibly be too decrepid for lockwheeling. For those young enough it will be a great experience.
Bernie
I bet you will not be too "decrepid" and if you are there's enough of us to tow you there.
Just put out the request when the time arrives.

I bash my head on the gunwales when arising.
Has this in any way damaged the boat.
-
Thanks for the clue.
Have now found it in "The Inland boat Owners Book" 3rd edition by Graham Booth. Published in 2000.
This book was based on the Waterways magazine articles.
Gary your thoughts would be appreciated thanks.
-
another favourite is "Can you Waxoyl the inside of the hull?"
Gary
Gary
I have only been planning my boat for approxiamately four years and I read about Waxoyling the cabin bilge. I can not now think where it was but it was not an ancient book.
By the way you wrote this I take it is not a good or necessary idea, thank you, I will not now look a fool and ask for it.
Ply, chipboard or mdf?

I would steer clear of MDF, personally, it absorbs water very readily and I have heard but not able to verify that if emits fumes that can be dangerous.
It is also unsafe to work with and safety gear (mask) must be worn.
