update - the guy who owns the boat is a narrowboat engineer, he knew the boat inside out. the cruise went very well so all good. I hopefully will find out next week what RSL will say about the finance, fingers crossed
carl
little update... owner is taking us out for a cruise tomorrow the boat is booked in for a survey / valuation next Friday then fingers crossed! I feel all knotted up... I'm sure it will be fine so radio 6 will make it all fine
what should I be looking out for?
Fingers crossed mate, I imagine after 6 years your bankruptcy will be about to disappear off of the radar very soon though?
a year to go but it stays with you forever unlike DD etc matt at RSL has given me just about enough trust to sell loads of stuff for the deposit, i'll report back next week...
well the problem when you are bankrupt (this was six years ago) is I cant even get a phone contract never mind a proper bank account!
RSL tell me they don't do a credit search and vet each application on its own merit with the 25% deposit as big one.
so my work history money bla bla is all good, will find out next week, that's why I'm so nervous as well as never running a narrowboat!
just want to say hello an what a source of information you all are!
don't beat me up but I have viewed two boats and the second one was the one. ticked all the boxes just need to clear the royscot bit soon (they close the scheme soon) and I'm well super nervous, just like buying a house but my circumstances after running a pub which sent me bankrupt don't allow. but I'm hooked on the canal world! I live on an organic veggie farm in a barn so love the alternative lifestyle.
just crossing everything RSL will be kind to me!
hi to you all
carl
it is 4ft wide and stops at the corridor, want to make a slide out support with a side extension. I've seen them but where to get one from. will look at the links you good folk have sent

I actually don't know if there is an alcohol limit for canals, and certainly don't want to re-awaken such a 140-page thread. Quite happy to be ignorant and start the mornings poking the stove, turning on the radio Classic FM, and have a sip of single malt and a cup of tea...
Classic FM ! outrageous !!! Radio 6 music PLEASE
can anyone advise the sort of time scale on buying a boat?
I'm working on the deposit now to hopefully get a loan from RSL but from viewing a boat to getting the survey report back what sort of timescale are we talking? I don't even know yet how much a survey costs and if the boat needs to come out of the water.
this august deadline for RSL closing the boat loans is a bit of a worry and again with a bad credit history...
It's a bit like getting one on a house but without the 'approval in principal' step that some lenders will offer (after checking your credit history but with the lender not yet knowing the particular house you want to buy) - it doesn't work like that with RSL. (or rather it didn't 4 years ago but I suspect it's still the same)
I'm going through that loop now, selling everything to raise the 25% deposit, then find a boat then survey then apply, but I'm 6 years into a bankruptcy so it may all fall flat on its face - big gamble
