With a little welding you could create one of those from a scrapper!

Would'nt the C& RT want extra revenue?
  3. Well, thank you everyone for your feedback we are not giving up on getting a boat, with all the preventatives and remedies, we will be fine !
  4. Hi we are still in the process of getting on the canal , but my wife has just started getting a reaction to insect bites, are biting insects a real nuisance in the summer months or are they managable. will appreciate your feedback, thanks.
  5. Sculling over the transom -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4qpNsrtWzM
  6. Sculling is also done with a single oar out of the stern of a (rowing) boat with a backwards and forwards motion and a twist of the oar through the motion.
  7. What i cant understand is they were not going round a corner, they was going straight, heading through a narrow bit!
  8. Sure, i did not know what it was called, but it reminded me of the sculling movement with an oar. How about "waggling"
  9. I am virtually new to narrowboating so while watching "Barging round britain" last night i noticed the "captain" guy was moving the tiller rapidly backwards and and forwards on a calm straight bit of canal although it was narrow, Out of interest what does this achieve?
  10. One of the greatest producers of water vapour are bottled gas and in my opinion the heating with the least vapour is solid fuel, stop or vent the water vapour and the battle is won.

  12. For anyone like me hasnt had a survey done before here is a sample of a pre purchase survey.
  13. Thanks for the feedback, i will definitely get my own survey, whichever boat i settle on, its well to be prepared to be able to make an offer with conditions depending on my surveyors report, rather than asking the original question later and possibly loosing my deposit. It was only seeing boats advertised with new survey, etc. that got me to seek some opinions.
  14. Hi i read that when buying a boat you should always get your own survey, In my search for a NB, i have seen boats advertised with recent survey, overplated and blacked, If i can have sight of the sellers survey is it advisable get my own survey done. Thanks.
  15. Get hold of the monthly free paper "towpathtalk", In the classifieds section under surveyors there are ads with the areas that they cover for the whole country. i picked a copy of the paper up at the hire base on the Somerset Coal canal.(off Dundas, K&A)
  16. What is the opinion of the Maximum usable draft on the canal system in general, please?
  17. OK, well i shall have to collect it in a container then, -When Bear Grylls runs out of water he boils his urine up and drinks it!
  18. I have just had a hire boat for a few days, and wanting to feel i was in control of the vessel i tried going astern manouvers, on each occasion the boat reacted differently always the opposite to my intention, Now i know why!
  19. I have a Separett Villa 9000 in a static caravan, there is no smell and the Urine goes down the tube into a gravel soakaway again no smell from that. The power consumption on the 12volt is only .06 watts per 24hours When we eventually get our boat i will install one in it. whether the urine goes into a collection bottle or straight into the canal is another matter for thought, as i cant see that my urine can be worse that the grease, gunk and other crap that i see coming out of the sink and bilge outlets on boats.
