Cheers guys, no culprits caught as yet, but seeing as the boat was taken back to its mooring by British Waterways with all their clothes and their computer on it they may end up turning themselves in! Apparently forensics are going to go over it. re the earlier comment about window configuration being the same in the 2 boats pictured, my dad built them both, hence they are both backwards (easier to make a brew while sailing!), and the red one is his steam powered one which no thieves would get very far with!!!

BOAT FOUND!!!!! Dear all, thanks so much for all your help, the boat has now been found. Contrary to a few sightings it was in the centre of Burnley and people had moved in to it - it had been filled with all their stuff and the only thing they did to try and disguise it was put up a fake reg and paint a window frame. I guess we were looking too hard for a really crafty steal!!!

We did indeed do this but to no avail.............my dad is currently on his steam boat coming from Wigan and is scouring the banking to see if there are any signs that it has been lifted out. We've since found out that crow bars were discovered a few days before on the towpath so looks like they've been planning this for a while.
