I suggest you pump the tank up to 60 Bar, and see if the leak reveals itself again. Should be fine according to mross, if I understood him correctly... :ninja::ninja::ninja:

i have no method of pumping it up , but am running a pipe from my gas locker from one of the gas cylinders , minus the regulator , I can not read the pressure as it is dark now but my wife has gone inside to get me her lighter - - - - - -

  2. oops , I have a minute diesel leak from the weld underwater at the back of our boat .the fuel tank is made in part of the hull , usual narrow boat way , is there something I can put on the weld while it is underwater to seal it ? do not want to have to take it out !

  3. Take the panel off and check all the connections on the back. The tacho connector may have come loose or fallen off.

I have checked the connections , all seem ok ?

At a guess the revs are picked up from the W terminal of the alternator, If the alternator is not charging that could well be your problem

Ta , I have a wiring diagram but the plug on the back of the tacho is just letters it does not give a clue how it works .

  4. Hi ,

ihave an isuzu 55 in my boat , when i came to run the engine , the tacho lights up and shows hours run but does not work ,when I put the ignition on the needle jumps a little but when I start the engine nothing .

It has two alternators on it , one 80 amp for the starter battery and an 110amp for the leisures .the 80amp is only showing 12.4 volts so I presume is faulty .

could the two problems be connected ? how is the tacho driven ?

  5. All of the yards I work with use staff to work boats during lifting/returning boats to the water, I find it strange that an owner was asked to do so. In my day, boats were steered, not driven mad moored, not parked. Clearly the car mindset is taking over on the cut, a pity.

I'm also surprised at the number of cillings and sinkings occurring these days. I could be wrong, but I don't recall any from years gone by. Perhaps some other old timers could chip in.

    Cheers,

    Dave

old timer here ! my use of the word " drive " was not in a car reference but in as you drive a nail into wood , I had to force the boat forward to stop the trolley slipping away .

  6. This morning i had to be at the tiller to " drive " our boat onto a large submerged trolley which was then pulled up a slipway into the shed to have its bottom blacked . I queried why I was involved in this way and was told it was health and safety , and while I was on the boat my wife was asked to sign a disclaimer ! my question is , is this normal or should the marina have better insurance ? if an accident had occurred would my boat insurance cover me . I would think that if they have my boat doing work they would be responsible for any damage etc , am I wrong ? I will ask for a copy of the disclaimer when I pick the boat up .

  7. now i know they're not fish , and i was not walking or cycling but i could not see anywhere else to put this !

Our mooring is on the L & L and the opposite side is a wooded area along the canal as far as the eye can see .

Some times we see a pair of buzzards soaring with still wings , on thermals , going higher and higher until they either go far away or too high to see , they are magic to watch .

Anyway yesterday we were sitting at home in the garden and saw a buzzard doing the same but underneath was a seagull , eventually the seagull reached the buzzard and attacked it chasing the buzzard away . this was repeated with another buzzard and different seagull .

I would have thought the buzzard was much larger and meaner " talons and big beak " ! so why were they both chased off ?

when you get a boat it is much more ! ( I don't like gardening the mooring though )

  8. i am gutted there goes my big money maker , someone got there first and posher ! we are moving the boat on thursday to get our bottom painted ! if i can take a piccy I will , then post it .

I don't think this was how the OP's device was to be used. If I understand it correctly it is so he can stand on one side of his 12' beam boat to view along the edge as he enters narrow sections such as bridges and locks. I guess it would put his engine controls out of reach but he does not mention that.

I always go to port were the controls are behind me within reach.

  9.

But Alan is quite right. I don't know if you drive a car, but what do drivers have to do when they are parking or putting their car into their garage? They don't have to resort to weird devices. If you learn to steer properly from the outset you would not need them, but if you use them from the word go then you are never going to learn to steer confidently and competently.

I drive a car , ride a motorcycle , fly an aircraft , without gadgets " weird devices " , my stick just makes going through narrows while sailing my boat easier for me . ( can I go back to the virtual pub now and be unlocked ? )

  10. Fully agree with Alan & Tam's comments.

Ours is only 11ft wide. We had a bow thruster when we first started out, we couldn't get in or out of the marina without it; well that was till we went through Braunston tunnel the first time and broke it from over use. We went through Blisworth tunnel the following day without a problem and haven't bothered to even look at what it would take to repair it and that was 2+ years ago.

The only gadget we have for steering is a short step for me to stand on when in control of the tiller so I can see over the roof (I'm a bit of a short arse)

Take it slow and practice, you'll soon get there and your confidence will grow each trip boat.gif

don't own up to using " gadgets " someone will tell you off , I think I've some platform shoes in the attic from the 70's, are you a size 8 ? I am happy with my stick !

  11.

Will you be awfully offended if I said "practice"

Every boat behaves differently and you need to learn the vagaries of your boat.

Next time you are cruising & it is quiet, just practice going backwards. You will find that it will swing in one direction because of a combination of the Hull being shaped like a brick, and the effect of 'prop-walk'.

Go as far backwards as you can, when it starts to swing (anticipate - don't wait for it), change into Forward, when it has straightened up again, back into reverse - repeat, repeat, repeat for as far as you like.

all the advise thankfully received , well most !

  12. our boat is 12ft wide so to get us through bridges etc i cut a piece of 1" x 1/4 ally bar the length of which is from the bottom of the tiller to just short of the deck ( so when not needed it hangs out of the way ) it has a leather loop to go around the tiller and the other end is wrapped with non slip tape .i can now stand at the side of the rear deck and judge the gaps easier than before .

  13. when i originally fitted out our boat i fitted an Attwood pump to the shower . it worked ok but as we do not use the boat much every time we used the shower we found the float stuck and the filter screen blocked with slimey ? soap residue ( wifes conditioner ! ). so i am changing it for a whale gulper .

Hi , I have signed in , I have not been bad , I do like humour but not politics , religion is whatever you want it to be . how do I get unlocked ?
