  1. Hi, has anyone got through from Reading to Bristol with an air draught of 7ft 10"
  2. Ok, look I wasn't trying to start a war and You wanna blow some steam fine. But,There are any number of smoky knocking engines running up and down our waterways . Oil companies will produce whatever sells! Do you really think they are gonna re write their specs sheet and is it in their interest? Do they want engines to last a lot longer? You are of course free to live in the past convinced new fangled stuff is rubbish or not worth it and yes I took a risk! Actually not that much of one cuz I also used full synthetic in a mitsubishi 3 cyl 20 HP for 6 seasons Motoring for days at a time from London and on the south coast. Funny thing she never smoked (any colour) ala glassed bores, missed a beat knocked or failed to start. Friction is friction and the best buffer for that is worth the extra in my book. Richard
  3. I agree, I consulted a chemist with a lifetime in oils and I now use 5 / 40 fully sythetic in my Perkins Perama 30 hp. Temp exactly the same and she reaches it faster but oil pressures stays a little higher. She is of 1989 vintage with 3800 hours. She runs noticeably quieter and a tappet tick has disappeared. His opinion>> The object is to get good lube on start up as that is where the wear mostly occurs thus the 5w 40. Also Make your first change sooner than later as it will thoroughly clean through your engine being a detergent oil. He said in some rare cases very old engines with non Nitrel seals can have a problem but in most cases it will be infinitely better? I believe him but???
