now I need to know who are the most unpopular members here... and follow them :)

'ccording to your greenie count ratio of 68% you are one of the most popular and Athy at 3% is one of the least.   Her Honourableship only comes in at 18% which is pretty poor.   Even humble little me comes in at 37%.

how about that then ?   B)

She keeps switching sides. Hated it there not so long ago ?

People make their own way in life. Ms G had nothing but trouble with the flat, nothing but trouble with the yacht and now nothing but trouble with the sewer tube!

Some have far more hassle than others in life.

Most times you reep what you sow.

many a true word was spoken in jest.   :clapping:

I am going to make a suggestion based on complete ignorance so I am sure somebody will correct me.

As I understand things the situation is:

    1.  The system on Lady G's boat was working.

    2.  Batteries at the bow were replaced.

    3.  Somewhere along the line during the work a charger/inverter was removed.

    4.  The batteries now aren't being charged (or not charged enough).

    Correct?

Surely the simplest answer is to get another charger/inverter and restore what was the status quo.

    What am I missing/not understanding?

have you not learnt that anything involving the good lady soon becomes incredibly complicated?

even the title of her thread confirms the view that, in her mind, nothing ain't simple.

  4. Having suffered "soshulmeedya-abuse" by the not so good lady when she was a mod and put me on the norty step without good reason (thank god we can now see her in her true colours), I managed to get over it and not report her to the feds.

Hoist by her own petard, no less.     :clapping:

PS - Kansas and Pitlockry (where the hell is that - it only figures in North Carolina) are well rid of her if you ask me.

The only place on here I’ve ever seen anything that I would consider might be close to bullying is the political board and even then it’s just robust views being exchanged…and easily avoided if you keep away from that area.

Please let’s not go back to how we were a few years ago when bans were handed out if you said slightly the wrong thing…hence thunder boat behind set up and a lot of interesting posters leaving.

We can all take offence at something…but as adults you learn to either ignore or reply as you see fit.

.................  and the good lady defected to that place for a while, but she didn't get a good hearing there either.

The cat will be fine there.

Try the moorings at Fiskerton Fen if you want nice and quiet and cat friendly.

There is a good pub if you walk up the road as well.

cats are never fine.   just ask my dogs who are on constant watch for the dreaded felines.

PS - They're also not impressed by ornery folk who give themselves what they believe to be posh titles (that akshully just belittle the user).  Given 'alf a chance they'd grab the title abuser by the wotsits and shake the hell out of her.

It's the difficulty of testing the batteries with a multimeter

I cant access all the batteries, it takes half an hour even to get at them, I never use a multimeter, I don't know if it still works, I can't be sure how it works.

I have an LED voltmeter at the bow batteries, at this exact moment they are showing 12.25 the engine has been off for 90minutes, they were 10.6 this morning at 5.00 am, engine on for about seven hours. I will move the boat again on to some cat friendly moorings tomorrow, that should be another four hours, hopefully some sunshine.

The LED seens to be the most precise gauge, the voltmeter at the back, is showing somewhere between 14.2 and 14.4 I think.

half an hour to get at your batteries?  where do you keep them?   Land's End?   ...................    well, that is quite ridiculous - as is your alleged inabilty to use a multimeter.

clearly those 43 years on the briny didn't teach you much about critical boat systems that may save your life one day  .....................   yes, you are not alone as a salty sailor, but most of us don't feel the need to brag about it.

Dear Honourable Ladyship - I know you have me on ignore but perhaps if you lifted some of those blocks you would realise what a pratt you appear to be.

  7. if you can't find or create a wiring diagram then no-one can be sure what the problems are and how they can be resolved.

.........................   if you or a competent technical guy (doesn't need to be one of your incompetent electricians) cannot create such a document then, as was suggested earlier, rip it all out and start again  ..................  or at least disconnect everything, check each wire for continuity so you can identify them at each end, and then re-connect in accordance with a well-designed wiring diagram.    There are plenty of books and documents out there (ask Tony Brooks) to help you design a proper wiring system.

Have any of you who are offering help considered you may be on "the list" so your replies are not being seen?

In which case it's hard to reply to questions you don't know are being asked, this is the flaw in blocking people.

they (we) consider that to be a privilege

So you no longer have a charger for the bow batteries ?

I'll try for the last time :

How are (all) the batteries connected and charged ?

How is your solar connected, and to where is it connected ?

how very dare you ask Her Highness personal questions like that?

Actually, it depends on honeycomb, spiral/reed,  or smooth tripe, depends on the local tripe expert.?

I've always found that weak tripe is quite unpleasant but the daily version is much more appetising.  My dogs love it, even westies usually love tripe.

I wonder how this will apply to the 500,000 coastal boats and (probably) another 500,000 that live at peoples homes on trailers.

How can it be implemented retrospectively ?

How will it control the sales of secondhand boats via Gumtree etc ?

I don't see how it can be applied, except to the buyers of new boats from the manufacturers or dealers.

Thinking about it, I guess the majority of boaters have insurance, so maybe it could be that you cannot get insurance without a 'licence to buy or own.'

you are supporting, aiding and abetting those who would run a nanny state if you are going to suggest practical ways to enforce it.

  12. take a chance ...........................      you've got a much better than evens chance of missing a hull stiffener.

the side stiffeners usually meet up with the bottom stiffeners - perhaps you have some knowledge of some of the locations, and the spacing?

......................  of course sod's law says that logic doesn't apply and you will hit the stiffener web head on   :o

I like this idea too. I'm guessing it would be fairly removable too should I need to inspect hull every few years? Do you know any companies that make them to measure? Would the outlet still be raised up a bit like existing?

I bought mine from Hovercraft Consultants - they are offered now from https://www.griffonhoverwork.com/support-services/design-engineering/flexible-structures/

Perhaps this is the same company?   You can of course specify exactly the dimensions of your tank and the positions of the outlet, inlet and vent openings, and the position of the hanger strap loops.

Would still have to cut a way into the existing tank to fit it,

    sorry, but you are wrong.

the flexible tank liner comes like an inflatable boat, folded up and compact - it can be inserted through the hatch.

ideally there should be a hanger hook fixed under the deck (could be fixed by drilling through and inserting a s/s screw threaded eye bolt from underneath with a nut on top of the deck, with a good sealing washer) at each top corner to hang the 4 loops at the matching top corners of the liner.

the liners are usually made to fit the customer's measurements.

the outlet hose will need to be routed through the bulkhead which will require the existing through-bulkhead fitting to be removed.

Its not a large boat. Outboard or inboard engine?  Inboard will turn about the center of the hull, outboard steers more like a car. Take it steady, hit anything very slowly and you will be fine.

Let any wind help you round rather than trying to fight it.

Get your ropes sorted out then if you need help from the bank or jetty you can be helped.

outboard steers more like a car ?  more like a car in reverse shirley ?
