Whereabouts is it?
-
Our engineer chap recommended it because, amongst other reasons, it was only £150 a week. It appears now to be 3 times that, so its appeal has pretty much disappeared.
-
Thanks, useful to know.
-
Thank you, that's helpful. The link to the terms and conditions on CRTs website didn't work, I presume some of this information would be covered there.
-
OK, thank you. Ellesmere sounded promising because someone told me it was £150 a week, but I've since looked on CRTs website and you can triple that now.
-
Does anyone know if pressure washing equipment is available/ included? I can't see any information on the CRT website.
And are you able to get the boat high enough to black the baseplate?
Haven't done DIY before so thanks for any information.
-
That sounds quite plausible.
I've just checked my Nicholson's and the one between bridge 21 and 22 is where we wind if we're not carrying on to Bugsworth/ Whaley Bridge. For some reason I can't bring to mind the one between 22 and 23 but that is in Nicholson's too, both showing as full length (at the time anyway). Both are also on Canalplan.
Looks like I should have carried on!

We were told this morning that some boats from our marina had gone out seeking some shade this week and weren't happy at having to to reverse back up to Marple junction, as they hadn't been aware of the bridge 24 closure. This must have been before the CRT signs went up.
I don't know what length boats they were, but there aren't many full length boats here so I'd have expected some / most to be able to turn next the manual lift bridge (I thought the winding hole was the Marple side of it) if nothing has changed.
-
This afternoon we planned to moor just before the first of the lift bridges, so that we could turn there in the morning and do some food shopping in Marple. Got to Marple junction to find a CRT sign saying that the canal was closed at bridge 24 and this was the last available winding hole.
I didn't risk it because it's quite a long way to reverse if it's correct, but does anyone know if there is a reason why the winding hole just before the manual lift bridge cannot be used? I'm not sure if it's a full size one but I've turned there countless times and it's a nice quiet mooring spot.
Thank you.

I've seen evidence this week of the contents dumped rather than a full cassette.
-
We are on our home stretch and should be able to make it back to our marina, but I suspect others would have been relying on Bosley, or won't want to pay to empty their cassettes. We've seen evidence of this in the bushes already on this trip 🤢.
-
We reckon we can make it back to our marina (adopting Greek practice for toilet paper disposal as a precaution) but how many cassettes will be being emptied in the bushes etc. with no CRT facilities since leaving Harecastle / Red Bull? It was bad enough before this.
-
And Bosley services are currently out of action, full septic tank, update due by Friday......
-
I didn't wait that long, probably more like 12 minutes. It would need washing again after 12 hours!
-
With the Wood End lift bridge broken so no access to Whaley Bridge/ Bugsworth, is it the case that there are now no CRT elsan emptying facilities once you've left Bosley Locks?
Someone asked me this question as we came up the locks and while I could tell them of 3 water points (Macclesfield, Bridge 15 and Marple), and rubbish disposal at Bridge 15 (or Marple, down the locks) I could only suggest that they ask at Bollington Wharf, Macclesfield or Lyme View marinas. I assume there must also be facilities at Victoria Pit and Marple marinas but I've never seen them.
Or had I forgotten about any?

And I can now report that there are still loads of swans above Kings Lock. Far more than boats on the move in the rain this morning.

White paint has no colour pigment so this product would not improve the looks of your cream paint. The blurb on the Owatrol site mentions this.
One of the earlier posts mentioned the possibility of an adverse effect on cream / white, my remark was in response to this.

A dead fish would probably have improved the smell of some of ours after recent soakings 🤢

We're back on board now and I've made a home made curry 🐷

Good luck,
give us an update on the pub 👍
The road might be a bit noisy, can’t remember.
and are there still lots and lots of swans there?
Cheers from the White Bear beer garden! The sun is out, I have a nice Red Willow wheat beer and hubby has a Dunham Dark mild. Very nice 🍻
We decided to moor above Big Lock as a few people told us the road above Kings Lock was really noisy with lorries all night, so we'll have to make the time up tomorrow. Along with the extra day as Bosley Locks are now opening Wednesday instead of Thursday as we've planned for.

Well, I am committed to going now so that I can report back on the pub 😁 (sorry, won't be the chippy).
Lots of swans at Anderton today. We hadn't, however, realised that the boat lift and visitor centre close on Thursday, but on the positive side we now have a beautiful mooring at Billinge flash.
We were told by another boater that the boat lift and visitor centre had been closed for 3 days as the car park had been occupied by travellers.
-
The Kings Lock pub has been closed the last 2 times we've passed, during what you'd expect to be opening hours, so we weren't sure if it had closed down.
Anyway, following the recommendations, we decided to swap Northwich for Middlewich for our shopping, so will be trying out the recommendations tomorrow. We plan to moor above Kings Lock too, as it looked to be busy enough to be safe and gets a few of the locks out of the way.
-
We are now discussing plans to stop overnight in Middlewich on our return 🍻

The White Bear looks good, maybe one for the way back 🍻

On the arm down to Coventry we had 3 separate instances which was a record, a beer bottle, wine gums and sweetcorn.
