Are the screens to stop another accident like the one last year when a lady fell in the side pound and got sucked through into the lock ?
-
Nothing to apologise for Neil, this forum is well known (sadly) for being populated by the kind of sad t'''ts that any decent individual would roll their eyes at and move down the bar a bit to get away from.
Somebody does the right thing by giving advice or a heads up and they come out of the woodwork.
Ditto. !!
-
You were spot on doing what you did and posting thisJust trying to heads up you guys. I will not bother next time.
. It's always helpful to know what's happening in certain areas and keeping other boaters on their guard ...
-
Good point ..If I see the guy in the morning I will try and get some more details..Check EBAY, Gumtree etc. Its not unknown for said Scrotes to list for sale in area of theft. What model was it?
-
What claim ?Of course it was. Who says it wasn't locked. Let the guy make his claim and stop all this talk of unlocked dogs, husband and generator even the wife had a locked chasity belt on. Shame on you all let the claim go through.
-
Surely locked as the Insurance company would expect it to be !Locked or not it's gone.
-
suggests .. Doesn't mean that it wasn't locked !I think the line:
Checked lady was minus large husband and dog unplugged it and legged it into the estate.
Suggests it wasn't locked.
-
But he never said that the stolen one wasn't locked !I think the "lock em down guys" in post 1 was a clue.
-
How do you know that it wasn't locked ?What surprises me is that anyone runs a generator without locking it to something. These people will steal it from right under your nose if you let them.
You wouldn't wave 800 quid in cash in front of a couple of chavs,so why do it with an expensive bit of kit?

We are moored opposite and I was amazed that the Police turned up half an hour later with sirens and flashing lights. Hope they catch the Scroates as soon as possible...

We filled up on the K&A last Summer .The marina we used told us that they had a visit from the Revenue the week before. They were a bit put out as all the revenue man did was to flick through the marinas records and say that's fine.
He then explained that all they had to do was to check that people selling fuel were keeping records and there was no way they had the staff or time to chase after boaters who hadn't declared tax. At the end of the day you decide how much tax you pay and I certainly don't worry about it. Needless to say we pay very little.

It's just the same... Think about it !Hardly the same, is it. Power steering allows the fitting of tyres with a larger contact area.

I wonder if the many boat owners you mention would also look at ways of removing the power steering from their cars.Curious!
Many boat owners don't use their bowthrusters and would be looking for ways to remove one
Go hydraulic if you are seriously into gadgets

Totally agree , I don't see why people can't seem to understand this ..What people need to grasp, is that IWA, AWCC and CRT would like a bigger range implemented.
This will happen if people continue to take the pee on what I consider at the moment is a very generous guidance.
I am fed up with those few who bring about changes that in effect penalise the innocent, due to selfish stupidity and ignorance.

We are also in Braunston next week .. I will put out extra side fenders. Give us a wave as you pass and hopefully not hit us.

Very good Mr Loafer !Was that Mrs Holden?

We stopped there in the Summer on our way back from our cruise down to Bath . Not knowing the area it seemed to be a good quiet spot to spend the night .There was no visible signs of Graffiti which we often use as a guide and it seemed to be peaceful with not many people about .luckily the night we spent there we had no problems. But how are you supposed to know without local knowledge what is safe and what isn't ,when you are unfamiliar with the area.

Our food bill is the same , It's the wine bill that's gone through the roof .. Happy DaysStill not saying...
because I have no idea.
Maybe its a bit like buying a Rolls Royce, if you have to ask how much?
You cannot afford it.
I can tell you this though your food bills, will be exactly the same as living in a house.
No, they may be a little higher as you will not always be able to get to a supermarket and have to buy from the village shop.
Our food bill as you say is exactly the same from when we lived in a house... The big difference is the wine bill which is now considerable more !!! Happy Days
Your fuel bills will be similar, possibly more, just paid to different people/companies.

For anyone stuck either side or planning to use the locks ,Just contacted C&rt and all is on schedule for the flight to open on December 21st...

How worrying is that .. The Police don't know how they are doing it . I thought they were the experts . Obviously not !Thieving scum are at it everywhere. I had an email off a spate off break ins in primary schools down here in Somerset. Been at least 2 a night. Blow and behold the school where I work was broken into that night . The police don't know how they are doing it.
They know what room and where the safe is, they get into that room undetected by he alarms in our school the ripped the safe bolted to the floor and kicked the door off. The coppers told us the weakness off certain safes big or small.
The daft thing is the alarms havnt gone off in any school.

I forgot to mention the string from the door handle to the trigger of a 12 bore Shotgun ...I reckon, with respect to your previous good posts, that they'll just think that you've left the fairy lights on.
How about a device that makes your hull live at 1000V DC? Is that illegal? I'm working on a remote control that disables it as I approach. Even if I'm too pissed to press a button. Many cars seem to have such a facility, albeit for other purposes. Nicknorman, any ideas to make it drunk-proof?

How would you know that there were no occupants on a boat and how would you know that it was moored securely when you are on your boat cruising past ..Then going on what you have said above which I do agree with , wouldn't it make sense to have one rule to cover all those situationsSee above (previous 4 pages). Not all situations are the same. Not all canals or inland waterways are the same. Not all boats do the same speed at tickover. Each situation needs evaluating on its own merits. For example on a narrow/shallow canal, in a cutting area (ie the ground is likely soft/saturated), in winter time, passing a boat moored on pins, with a boat whose tickover speed isn't excessively fast or slow, then yes. Similarly if a boat(er) is in the process of mooring up then tickover is the right speed. On a wide & deep river going upstream, passing a boat moored securely with no occupants, tickover would be daft. And there's many other situations in between.
-
So do you agree or not that it's bad behaviour or poor etiquette to pass moored boats at more than tick over speed .Yes I'm not doubting its not good etiquette. But if you want to get all legalese and start defining "official" or not......
-
You are most probably correct in what you say . But take a couple of minutes and look at The canal and river trusts Boaters handbook dvd which is on line . Fast forward to 23 minutes and 43 seconds and you come to Good boating behaviour ....Makes sense to me what they say. There has never been an official requirement, legislation, byelaw etc to slow down past moored boats anyway.
Should marina moorers need licences?
