  1. Apparently how these detectors work is they reflect against a different substrate so bare the metal on the outside and as soon as the wave hits paint rust etc it will reflect back.
  2. Installed on of these in a small wet room which included a shower. Been using the area for 3-4 years infrequently. Decided to check underneath and to my horror found evidence of a substantial leak. After a refit it still leaked around the toilet area. Eventually found the join between the back and basin has no gasket and leaked through. See photo.
  3. I’ll opt for trying ones off Amazon for now. Keep you posted.
  4. I can imagine you get what you pay for. Getting the professionals in is £250+ so something to play with there. If I calibrate on a known then get down to the bare metal it should give me an idea if further investigations are needed. Also it’s there to use again. From my experience with surveyors they have an agenda and are reluctant to work with you and spend time on any concerns you might have.
  5. Could anyone recommend one of these for diy use. Got a 1976 hull and although I’ve had a professional survey done I would like to check out a few specific areas next time it’s out the water for blacking.
  6. Thanks Mike
  7. Looking to replace my small multi fuel stove with a diesel stove ie. Refleks. I’m based in West Lancashire on the L&L. Does anyone have a contact to have this done please.
  8. Looking at the fuel side does anyone have the spec for the supply pipe and what kind of filter is best. Thanks.
  9. Are flexible exhausts a potential source of leaking?
  10. Thanks. What are the special features of a marine exhaust. Sorry just trying to grasp it all.
  11. Which part tends to be the problem ie joints or flexi pipe?
  12. Question: what’s the issue with using the supplied silencers.
  13. Ta.
  14. Yes. I was looking at their recommendations for the new ones out there. They seem to get a bit of discount too.
  15. Great thanks. Found this site too got some good info can be adapted for boats https://www.vanlifeuksurvivorsguide.co.uk/post/tried-and-tested-diesel-heaters-3-0-2022-2023
  16. Cheers.
  17. Just hot air
  18. I am looking to get a 2kw diesel heater for my 30ft cruiser style narrowboat. Firstly could anyone advise if 2 rather than 5 is sufficient for a relatively small boat. Also is there a preferred make to go for or more to the point not to get. Mixed reviews on some. Thanks.
  19. I’m interested in the phone/router interface too please
  20. Thanks for your replies didn’t know about the legal aspect. I think I noticed somewhere it stated their device was legal which confused me at the time. My existing thoughts were to save cash by using my existing available phone data. Alas as with anything you get what you pay for. Cheers.
  21. New to boating I bought a smart tv and took out an unlimited data contract with 'three' with a view to using my phone as a hotspot to watch iplayer etc. Works ok but buffers in poor signal areas. Been looking at mobile network signal boosters and came across a few such as Nikrans LCD-300GD which claims to give 5 bars in poor areas. Wondered if anyone has experience of such devices. Regards Richard
  22. What’s the date of your thread Arthur
  23. At the moment I’m using Morris 10/40 multi grade but was suggested to use HD30 mono grade. Can anyone advise. Cheers.
  24. Your right. I tried Jump leads and couldn’t get any turnover. So a new starter battery is now on the list. Cheers.
  25. Fitted new solenoid ok. Still same problem. Noticed however that starter battery voltmeter reading falls off the scale when starting. Changed everything over to the fairly new service battery bank. Voltmeter reading drops slightly on starting. Still same problem however it seems more intermittent. Conclusion that starter needs attention however problem may be exacerbated by a weak battery. Have been advised elsewhere that for large twin engines the battery needs to be tip top. Will keep new solenoid in place as it does help the starter button. Thanks to all 👍
