  1. Hello knowledgable people.. Just wanted to ask for some tips on refitting our kitchen. We are moving it to the middle of the boat so our first step is to get a new drainage hole made for the sink. We feel fairly confident building the kitchen but am wondering how to move the gas and water pump and water pipes. Should we get professionals into do this or is it sonething a novice can do? And should we do this before we start building the actual kitchen? Anything else we should be thinking about before we start this. Thanks in advance.

    Boat heating

Do you think? That's interesting. Our stove is on its way out and there are small gaps in the back of it. Also planning to re insulate the bedroom this summer as well. Or maybe we just live heat! Thanks

    Boat heating

We are cc' sand currently have gas heating for water and an old morso stove for heating. It's a great stove but just want that but more heating. Thanks for your reply
  5. Hello.. It feels like spring is here at last and after surviving our first winter in our narrowboat we look forward to some sunshine and a little less mud!! Anyway I wanted some advice on upgrading our heating system for next year. We are thinking of getting a new stove. with backboiler fitted to heat 3-4 radiators. Is this the best (and cheapest) option or should we be considering diesal heating systems? Can anyone give me a rough idea on costs for this including fitting? It's all early thoughts but I would really live a warmish bedroom next winter. Thanks in advance :-)
  6. Answers to your question: No she's not been overplated No work has been done on the hull, we have redecorated inside and added furniture, which I fear is to be too heavy. I can't see any hatches at the front if the boat but she has had floorboards laid throughout. The previous owner has advised us not to fill up the water tank as it is overly big. Thanks for tips on making hatches, I think we need to check she has not got water leaking inside and so will try to work on this. Thanks again for your help
  7. Thanks again for all your help. We thought about having some valves fixed and these look ideal. It's not a problem at the moment as the water tank now has less in, but we need to sort something out. I can post pictures but haven't got any to hand at mo and internet isn't reliable at the mo but will do soon We haven't had work done on the boat as she had an excellent survey and we got her at a reasonable price. How do we get to the front ballast of the boat?
  8. Thanks for all your help. We have re looked at our ballast which has helped significantly but not a full solution yet. We will be getting a professional to have a look to get their opinion as well. Thanks again
  9. The back end is definetly lower already and when we ran low on water the front end rose higher with no water getting in. We filled up again and the problem returned if this is more than a ballast issue then I would definetly empty some if the water tank. Alan - The hull has not been overplated, we will head to a marina tomorrow and ask for more advice as well. Thanks
  10. She was built by a Liverpool boat maker which I know some people are warey of but she had an excellent survey on the hull. I guess we need to get busy re trimming her tomorrow then, as we really don't want a pond onboard!
  11. Hiya, we are newbies to living aboard. We moved on only last week, although have been refitting her fir the past 6 weeks. As we've moved our stuff aboard and filled up the water tank we've found that the front of our boat is so low that water is coming through the drainage holes. At first this was only a bit but it now feels we have a constant pond in the front entrance of our boat. Anyone got any ideas how we can sort this? Do we need to ballist her more at the back ? When friends visited today the water rose to about an inch, which was quite concerning. All ideas appreciated! Thanks in advance :-)
  12. Hiya I wanted to ask about what people thought about buying a boat with a hull thickness of 6:6:5. I have just seen a colecraft boat advertised at a reasonable price but its hull is thinner than hoped. Has anyone got any advice on what to consider if thinking about considering this boat? Does this mean she would need to be re-plated soon? And what does this mean cost wise? Any help or advice is gratefully appreciated.
  13. Hiya, Im still looking for the boat of my dreams, or at least one i can call home for a good few years. Ive seen another one but the hull thickness is advertised as 6,6,4. Now this is considerably thinner than the 10,6,4's i have been looking at. Is this unusual? Does this mean i could be looking at a need for re-plating in the next few years and if so, what sort of cost is this? Thanks, any help is appreciated..
  14. Thanks peeps, much appreciated
  15. Thanks for all your advice and opinions
