  1. Jez must have had a very dodgy speedo, most of the Bonnevilles/Nortons/tritons of that era struggled to scrape past 110mph, according to the expert testers in the motorcycle press ( although my 650SS did 120MPH, HONEST!)

I used to race bikes in the 70's,and for a couple of seasons i had a really rapid seeley norton 750,this was a purpose built racer but i used to have a job staying with a lad called steve trasler on a thruxton bonneville down the old norwich straight at snetterton,a really quick triumph !

  2. Some are wide enough for 2 way traffic, some aren't. The ones that aren't, some have tunnel keepers who direct the traffic, some have timeslots allocated to each direction, some you can see the other end so you just go when it's clear. Some have traffic lights. Some are almost wide enough, and some are just wide enough for two way traffic but elf'n'safety won't allow it. In fact there's almost every possibility you can think of.

BLIMEY ! you wouldn't want to make a mistake on the one that's "almost" wide enough!laugh.png

  3. just been watching narrowboat repeat on telly, the chap goes through a few long tunnels,on a couple it's obvious 2 boats can pass but on a couple it seems impossible, are all tunnels you encounter 2way?i know to an experienced boater this must seem a stupid question but i wondered if on some tunnels they had built in a sort of parallel waterway to accomodate both directions?help.gif

  4. I am petrified of spiders. My boat is full of the gits. My only respite is the winter time when they have the decency to die or hibernate or whatever it is they do.

    It's winter

I have giant ones the like that my parent's garage used to house. They live in the gas locker, bow lockers and come up through the dinette seats also in the front of the boat.

there's some in the cruiser stern bilge and back cabin too.

OP don't let your daughter read this!

to late!! she's just fainted! seriously though as long as it's not an issue with boats, she'll be o.k.probably better than you by the sound of things!hug.gif

I can really understand your concerns about the safety of your daughter, especially in these difficult times of global warming etc, where even the experts are unsure of the effects on the environment that these changes will have.

I believe that, if my good lady was willing to take on the great risk, that we will spend 2 weeks on the said boat, and I will guarantee, once we have evicted any spiders that may kill your daughter, she will be totally safe.

    Hope I can help you

    Brilliant!!! Still laughing nowclapping.giflaugh.png

  6. we have been looking for a boat for our daughter to semi liveaboard for a few weeks now and have been learning about the life style as we go along, this may seem an unusual question but my daughter has a fear of spiders,is there any reason to believe that a narrowboat envoironment would attract more than general housing if the boat was lived on daily,i.e.cleaned,vaccumed,etc?it would be in a marina.thanks,phil.

  7. The 'system' on our previous boat was :

Shore lead to blue socket on the stern

Short length of 3 core cable thru the wall into a standard domestic 220v twin socket.

A 'ring main' of 4 sockets around the boat, leading back to a single 13 amp plug which plugged into the socket (call it the 'feed socket) fed by the shoreline.

The 'feed socket' could be connected to the ring main, a battery charger, 220v tools etc.

This sytem had passed BSS (at least once) and the examiner had called it a 'temporary' supply (which would fall outside the remit of the BSS) just like if an extension lead was being run from the bollard (which in effect it was)

This time (December 2013) It failed the BSS as it did not have RCD / MCB protetion - well it did but it relied on the 'bollards' protection which was not enough.

Had to fit one - not a huge problem - just replaced the "feeder socket" with a £20 RCD jobbie from ebay and Bobs Your Uncle.

It does pay to stay with the same surveyou tho' (unless he has retired)

this is all i thought you did anyway till i read otherwise ,would you say you'd have to have a pretty sympathetic surveyer if you did it this basic?
