  1. Cheers Alan. Wasn't aware of that. But ill have to get the old tape measure out to see. Touch wood its the same size as a morso squirrel.
  2. Well the chimney looks like its seen better days. It might be ok but that's my lack of knowledge for ya. So is consider changing the whole lot. I know its a big job if a boats never had one but as this boat currently has one. Surely it shouldn't be to hard to take the old stove and chimney out and replace it with a new one. As regards to boilers. I've also looked at aga.
  3. You know I can't even remember my comment lmfao.
  4. Ok I know its just a soap but corrie did a story line where tyron helped fiz with her boiler. And caused a leak giving her carbon monoxide poisoning. He didn't get paid. And he was worried about going to jail for touching the boiler.
  5. Actually got to pull you up on that one. It's illegal to work on boilers unless your gas safe registered.
  6. Well said. Not to mention we can adapt very well. I can't help being very excited. Just one thing I wanted to pick up on this post. Regarding electricity being wired to to houses and on all the time at the push of a button. So does a cable running from a meter to your boat not count for the same. It's still electricity being fed by wire to your boat. And available 24/7 at the push of a button.
  7. Bit confused by that comment. You calling me a parasite?
  8. That's absolutely fine. I just take certain comments with a pinch of salt. I just remember that everyone was new to boating at some point. Precisely, life is to short to worry about little things. Lice for today cause tomorrow's not guaranteed.
  9. I use to work on a traveling fair and I did all that(minus the pontoons) there. I've lived in confined spaces. As for problems with the boat, that's no different to owning a house. Same as frozen pipes.
  10. Cheers Paul. It's such a shame that a few people make new boaters feel unwelcome. Though this doesn't bother me. Cause I'll still be around enjoying my boat and the lifestyle way after they're no longer around. I do not wish to mow the lawn or do any sort of gardening as it bores me. Why do people seem to think that I'll be on my boat crying because the water will run out, toilet will be fun and run out of gas. All of which are easily refilled or emptied lol. I appreciate all the advise and the friendly Falk on this site. The other I just don't have time for.
  11. No we have a maintenance man who does that lol. And I know, oldgoat as right pissed me off. So what I work full time and want to live on a boat. Yes partially because its cheaper. Mainly because its a slower pace of life. And very relaxing. With plenty of opportunity to get close to nature. I have plenty of time when I retire to travel every single canal and river. For now I'm happy just taking her out when I have ,annual leave. You don't take it for granted then. Cause you only get to travel up and down the canals on occasions.
  12. Excuse me I resent being called lazy. I'm a full time social care worker. My job is to make sure our residents have a good quality of life. This includes all personal care, cooking, taking em out for appointments, laundry and cleaning etc.... So no I am by no means lazy. And very offended to be called so.
  13. Out of curiosity how much would it cost to repaint a 38ft narrowboat. Thanks
  14. It's new territory but I know a lad(my age) who lives on a boat. First motivation is the opportunity to own my own home. Secondly I love being by the water. Really therapeutic. Yes a cheaper and more modest way of life. And yes i know boat maintenance can be expensive.
  15. Lol is rather sit on the bow with a beer and watch people go by lol.
  16. Have I disregarded the info given to me by fiDodido nope. It gives me something to think about. And I appreciate all the info I get. Otherwise I'd not post on here. You just need to remember that everyone was new to narrowboats at one point, inc you. And it is a very exciting time.
  17. Yeah I've seen them. And yes there's a direct bus to ilkeston. So it takes 20mins that's not to bad. Definitely worth considering.
  18. Yeah definitely wanting the community spirit. Can't wait. Sorting through things I have that I don't need lol. Ok dog house your opinion. Which ofcourse your entitled to.
  19. That's different. That's stuff for the boat. And enjoyable.
  20. Plus the boating club is for leisure use only. As far as I'm aware.
