  1. Its not on ebay, I checked. The ad I saw and replied to was on boatsandoutboards.co.uk, thats who I reported it to.... Yep sadly lots of scammers on ebay Big business only care about the money....
  2. Hi all.... I am looking at boats and came across this one for £5,700.00 - http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/house-boats/1988-piedaterre-50ft-narrowboat-hull-FAD2466 Seemed to good to be true but I am optimistic so contacted them asking for specs, pics etc, correspondence is as follows - "Hi, This boat its just perfect, Immaculate condition, no damages, once with the boat you will also get all the equipment my husband had, it also includes the trailer. All necessary documents available. I just moved back to Aberdeen after the death of my husband(I was left with it and a big mortgage due next week). Price £5700 delivered at my costs. I had a buyer just 1 week ago but that person scarred me a lot. He came with 2 friends and wanted to pay me with fake notes. I was lucky that my father in law was close and he noticed that. Since I'm getting alot of messages regarding the sale and I decided to list it on eBay with a buy it now option and whoever wins it will be the next owner. I assume you already have an account with eBay. If not please register and let me know when you are ready so I can just email you the link. If you'd like to secure the deal before anybody else does, then please buy it on eBay. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'll check my email regularly. I hope to hear back from you soon." I enquired again about any surveys and more pictures and received this - "There is a survey from June 2012 and further documentation from November 2012 stating that the hull is sound and fully insurable. The Boat Safety Certificate runs to April 2014. Here is how the transaction will go on: -I will make a private eBay listing for you. -You will have to click "buy it now", fill in the forms and follow the instructions. -eBay will send you an invoice with all the transaction details and the payment instructions. -You will have to secure the funds to eBay. -After the funds will be secured to eBay, the delivery will begin and the boat will arrive to you in max. 48 hours. -When the boat will be in your custody, you will have a 3 days inspection period. If everything is alright, the transaction ends and eBay will release the money to me. If there is something wrong with the boat, you will be fully refunded and I'll get my boat back too, without any extra fees. Everything is covered by eBay. As I told you, eBay will release the funds to me, only after your confirmation that the boat is alright. Please let me know if you agree with this, so we can proceed right away with the transaction. I'm waiting for your reply. Thank you." Obviously some sort of scam but I asked if it would be possible to view the boat, to see what she would say, got this - "I listed it for other potential buyers too, one of them confirmed that he will have the money available the day after tomorrow. I don't know if the boat will be still available. Of course I will sell it to the first one who pay for it. Also the paperwork has been all ready sent to ebay that is why they have agreed to include me in the seller protection program and the possible buyer in the buyer protection program. eBay's services. Using their services you have 3 days to inspect it before paying me and I'll be sure that I have a genuine buyer who won't mess me around. You'll get the chance to inspect it, test it and everything you like while your money is safely held in eBay's account. ONLY after you confirm with eBay that you agree to keep it, they'll release the money to me. In case you don't like my boat you get a full refund. Email me back if you are interested." I reported it to the website but who knows if they will take the ad down, I hope no one falls for this
