  1. Hi all Hoping you can help me out with recommendations. I'm having my boat painted at Highline near Cowley / Uxbridge and the usual signwriter is away. I'd like to get it all done at the same time (1st 3 weeks August). So can anyone recommend a signwriter? Not a massive job as all I need is the name (Freebird) painted on the side at the stern. Would be very grateful for any suggestions Thanks Cath
  2. Definitely not scared me off. I did Sheepwash and it was great, particularly the Halal bridge! Somewhat knackering given I'm on my own - those lift bridges are a killer. But was delightful. Thanks Mike and everyone
  3. What can I say - thank you for all the views. I'm thinking a bit 50/50 perhaps leaning towards dukes cut. Thanks for the mooring advice too. I think i'll play it by ear tomorrow.
  4. Hi there Wondering if anyone has any advice re whether to go from Thames (upstream) to Oxford canal using the first entrance (sheepwash) or the 2nd (dukes cut). I've heard mooring on the lower section of the Oxford is sparce. But given my boat is 60ft I'm finding the Thames difficult to moor on. Thanks for great advice on previous post Cath
  5. Thanks Kathryn - I have read your website and it was really helpful. I'm going upstream so from Brentford to Teddington - thanks re the mooring information
  6. Hi all I'm off to Brentford to get on to the Thames in my 60ft narrowboat - first timer. I've got the kit (lifejackets, anchor,..) but have a couple of questions. Is it possible to moor between Brentford Gauging Locks and the Thames lock overnight? My map book implies I will be on the River Brent by then so does it operate just like a canal? Re getting onto the Thames I understand I need to be at Thames lock 2 hours before high tide so I'm through Teddington before the tide starts to head out. Is this right and how long does the change of the tide take / how long is still water? Lastly do I need to have spoken to the lock keeper at Thames lock as I cannot get hold of him? Any advice gratefully received Thanks
