Thank you to all contributors to this thread. I have read several of the books and articles mentioned by contributors, visited the archives at Ellesmere Port and trawled the web and have learned a great deal about these remarkable women. My admiration for them grows the more that I learn. I am giving the talk today and whilst I don't feel as if I am in any way an expert, I do feel confident that I can do justice to their story. The post of Audrey Williams obituary was very timely and will give a little more colour to my talk. Many thanks.

I am a once a year boater who has been roped into giving a talk to some local OAPs. I have said that I would talk about Life on the Canals but I would really like to do a talk /show a video or dvd about the Idle Women or any other historical topic which demonstrates the reality of working life on the cut. Does anyone have a ready prepared talk that they would be willing to share with me. I can use slides, powerpoint or show video or dvd and the content needs to last for about 50 minutes. The talk is in November 2013 so I am planning ahead! Many thanks, Louise
