Hello peeps and a very happy Sunday to you all.
We got back from the boat last night and absolutely shattered but had an amazing few days on our maiden voyage!
Still knackered so here is my facebook update copied and pasted (YAWWWWWN)
Picked the boat up, Dean steered her beautifully out of the marina and then we got stuck in the bank....all sorted and found a 24 hour mooring. Had lunch and our first evening on the canal, saw a Kingfisher, a heron and a Tawny owl all right on our doorstep. Walked back to Devizes to get the van and head the boat up to Horton....had a mad couple on a widebeam boat coming towards us diagonally across the canal who had never sailed a boat before...managed to get past them and headed for the next bridge....turned out to be a swing bridge ARRGHHH...had to moor up on a tiny jetty, go and swing the bridge across, it got stuck half way so Dean had to use the giant boat pole to push it to the other side....back on the boat to get her through the bridge and then moored up again on the other side (whilst a friendly lady boater was chuckling away at us!)...off the boat again to swing the bridge back and then off to our destination. Every person we met was friendly and helpful with loads of information. Being next to nature every second was amazing. We learned that living on a boat is going to be hard but rewarding and my housework only took about 5 minutes! The highlight of all the brilliant experiences was meeting a little Kingfisher yesterday morning (see photos).
Can't wait to get back to the boat next saturday!!!
