Just been in touch with Sarah. The Bolly is still in Ling, it’s a W7, with gearbox, the type installed in Spanish fishing boats. There you go.

Thanks dave, reason I asked is coz I got told it got swapped which I thought was very odd given the work done to put it in.

  2. Wouldn't have thought would be much difference vibration wise than a bolly? Use the dane and shes wooden with bolly, but be it low rev engine rather than high, but I do have huge engine beds and I mean huge, + I found wooden boats absorb some of the vibration, depending wooden boat how much it would make it twist when running, the national running on one I can get a little twitch but we could get dane front and back to do alternate twisting at right rpm

You might be right I dont know hence why wanna track one down, see what there like, but it's one of the few engines to be semi light and give big power and the space,

Alot of other engines I dont like the sound,

They didn't mail me, the bar stewards!

    I'm gonna complain the GDPR....

Wrote to me too but I did also enquire before I got letter that morning, but no on all seriousness they should not have put a letter out, they should have waited till the next hnbc mag or put in the next towpath or put on this site, not written letters but at the same time it's no diffrent from junk letters ect, and they have not sold your details just used internally but I do agree that the details we have given is for the show and not for a advertisement or for further future sales ect

  4. I did reply on the post about k1 for sale but got no reply,

Be interesting to hunt it down as a k1 is my Ideal engine if I replaced the national, I have parts of a jp2 but only bits the block was shot where a crank had brake and damaged the block behond repaired, I've also got access to a fr2 so if the national really gives up I've could get something to put in but there isnt much room in my engine room it literally is an engine room! A k1 would alow me to keep the power and get a single back in towy

  5. Ok so my heads are off the national for engine semi rebuild, I have 0 movement in the crank up down or forward backward so the bearing on the crank hopefully are ok engine was rebuild a few years back and has been oil changed every year sence but I've also had them out 2017 and had no damage on then,

I'm in the middle of stripping the heads, 1 head is ok but not build very well but is rebuildable, the other is might not be saveable, this is due to the water feed around the exhaust port was full of sand at this end only but has turned to rock and has blocked one side of the flow around the exhaust if I can get threw it its saveable.

I have also found on this head both the intake and exhaust valves have been lapped in quite deep intake by around 1-2 mm the exhaust not quite so bad but at least all the valve was lapped unlike the other side that had only been lapped till around a thin bit of card sealed.

Anyways on the bad head there is some grit under the injector guide and I need to remove it to clean and reseal,

Can anyone tell me how to get it out? I'm assuming it's the same as the exhaust guide and just presses out and back in?

As far as I can tell, 60' boat for £18K is quite a bargain

Maybe elastic is handy when comparing chalk and cheese. Who is buying JP2 engines these days?

    Do you want another National?

  7. My plan was near full strip down and rebuild o er winter around 800 ish at even 1200 for engine I prob would have come in under 2k,

I could put my national on ebay at 500 starting it might sell for 1.5k or it could go for 9-10k given it's running and starts easy by hand but someone could see it as throw it in and your off another might go that needs a full rebuild when really it might just need piston cleaning

I am familiar with the Marine Power Services restored JP2 engines at about £13000 (plus options) but what should a good JP2M with Blackstone 2:1 gearbox be worth (as a potential purchaser who is familiar with the lengths of a piece of string) :captain:

As with anything if you pick the right market and day yu might make 13k on one but you need that one buyer I would say normal price would be around 4-7k give or take,

The prob is a 13k engine might have had a full rebuild but it dosnt mean it's going to be a good engine, my dads old fr was ment to be rebuilt but leaked oil,

A 1k engine might seam shot but a man in his shed with right tools and mind set could rebuild one for next to nothing and still have a really good engine.

But again it's sometimes the market or timing.

I've got a painted water can one day I could make £60 another £500 as we all know too well

  9. I had worked out about 800 to do all the work depending on what was needed and were parts were got from, could do cheaper if used non genuine parts like pistons and liners,

Yes it all seamed a bit odd the reasons for removing, but for me was an easy rebuild as could be done at home,

I don't think I saw it on Facebook

I was rather hoping that no one would be interested and I could make a cheeky offer!!

    edited to add

some bugger has found it and put a bid on in the last few minutes....not happy about that!

That me more than likely out then, I did ask about buy it now but he wanted 2k+ hence why I was watching quietly but I will prob not get it now as I've only got a small amount without eating into national work fund or boat fund (and there both too important to eat into
