I've been reading several threads relating to the costs of living aboard, and I'm surprised that some people are saying that living aboard (cont. cruising)can be expensive. When I look at my costs asociated with running a 4 bed house, it would seem to be quite reasonable. It's all very well talking about maintenance and breakdown costs, but you get those with a house as well - probably far greater than those associated with a barge. Within the next 2 years (on reaching retirement age) it's my intention to sell my house, which has been pretty much a millstone round my neck for 25 years, and move onto a live-aboard, with the intention of continually cruising - well at least for the first few years. My research, albeit theoretical, tells me that I'll have a better lifestyle, with substantially reduced costs...... unless, of course anybody out there knows different!
