Awww well done you for taking on a rescue! Lurchers are lovely dogs . I dont know what id do now without my boy ( a great dane cross) I had him from a pup and crate trained him for the first few months and i can proudly say ive never had a problem with him.. beautiful nature and well behaved. Good luck .. im sure you will all love boat life together lucky dog
  4. Anyone have or know of a low power hoover?? Dog hair nightmare.. sweeping just does not do the job! I have 1000w 24v inverter.
  5. Then the problems will just grow.. Your last sentence is not true i used to live there.
  6. Bit of both Mike. Im just wondering why if you can moor the boat, as a leisure say, why you can't live on it? What difference it makes? Is it down to infrastructure ie, bins elsans etc ?? If so where is it written? Also if that is the case then won't that lighten the load from the other area your living in, surely it gets balanced out? Times have changed since the Planning regs have been written and other peoples views on weather you are an eye soar or not should not really come into it seeing though there is massive problems with our economy and wellbeing. Which is rapidly getting worse. People get made homeless due to ruthless evictions, which only causes more problems, so its only shifting the problem and not solving it. I know of a section in oxford where you used to be able to live on board but now every time someone moves off it gets auctioned off as a ''Leisure Only''. So that has nothing to do with Planning regs. If it was then live a boards would'nt still be there. Isn't it time to look at the bigger picture and stop being so blinkered? I know this is a big debate across the board but really.. times are getting harder and harder for everyone. things need to loosen up not get tighter. There isn't room for it.
  7. Maybe ill just plonk her on the docks
  8. Isn't it time there was a complete re-think on Planning regs?? I mean.. its really outdated considering the housing and sustainability problems in the world. Boat life isn't cheap we all know that. Draconian Town and Country Planning Regs need re-writing given how times have changed.
  9. The council have little to do with the waterways. If they can justify it then we can pay it surely?
  10. So.. come on.. What IS the issue with planning regulations and residential mooring? If the boat is moored what difference does it make if you live on board or not?? How can planning having anything to do with the reality of living your life like anyone else? We can rant all we like about the ''scum'' but isn't that everywhere in this society no matter where you live? Boats are just as expensive if not more than a flat or shared accommodation. If BW have now become a charity shouldn't they be actively encouraging us for more income to maintain our beautiful waterways? Or is the plan to turn them into a theme park for only the wealthy ? Hahahaha.. i feel a war of words coming on... i'll grab some popcorn..
  11. Thanks JDR yes it may come to that. At least it will cut down the fuel costs somewhat! A 2 hr journey plus the Bridge costs its a small fortune every week to oxford! He spends more than i earn weekly! Ahhh the joys of having a big work horse truck :/
  12. ooops did that wrong! hahaha.. Thank you and yes you are right.. my partner is more important we dont HAVE TO live on it.. but he is very smitten with boat life ( i give him living a winter on board ) haha.. I do have my work cut out finding somewhere that's for sure! Not the first time ive had probs finding a mooring! Anyone who knows Oxford knows the problems. I just dont understand why the planning regs are so damn tight! If you moor your boat.. whats the difference if you live on it or not!! Sigh.. And thanks again to everyone with some insight! Ive been banging my head trying to find out information! Any more ideas.. type away!!
  13. Thanks Graham, yes im keeping an eye on the M&B canal moorings on the auction page but as we all know residential moorings are few are far between... sigh.. may have to find something this side of the Bridge.
  14. Thank you for the replies people .. soooo.. the River Wye is defo a no go unless i want to ride the rapids!! Any more thoughts on the Usk?? Or maybe somewhere else that isnt over an hour commute to Newport which is where my fiances business is??
  15. Thank you SaltySplash. So its not really suitable for a narrowboat then? The M&B canal is a possibility however finding a residential mooring will be the biggest problem hoping i could find a private one on one of the rivers.
