  1. Oh lord there's so much to learn..and I know you're all doing rolling eyes at me for being so half witted about it but I really appreciate the help. There's no real way I can no if a 1989 Springer should be that money or not.....so it's extremely helpful to be told it shouldn't!! No doubt I'll keep asking silly questions.
  2. Oh yes! And also- Mike The Boilerman- was that the right name?? You mentioned people living on leisure moorings (with no security of tenure). I didn't even look in to this because I assumed it was for holidayers only. You can live on them?? I must look this up!
  3. Yep! Thanks Lady Muck- great reply. I'm going to print it out and read it a hundred times and then once more Thanks all! http://london.boatshed.com/narrowboat_40ft_cruiser_stern-boat-144515.html Also, having read what you've all written, this suddenly looks like less of a good deal...am I right??
  4. Hi Paul, Please keep us updated on your adventures- as you can see in the message above yours, I'm also a Londoner looking for a boat and I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if you find out anything interesting- obviously the same goes in return!
  5. Hello all! I live in London, am 29 and am fed up of housesharing and doing other people's clearing up!! I want my own place which is totally impossible in London unless...unless I think about a boat. I don't want to be one of those dafties who buys up and hasn't got a clue so I'm trying to learn as much as possible! Here's a list of questions I have been posting in boating forums which maybe you can help me with! I am confused mostly about the pricing of boats and whether or not the great leap between boats of around £14000 and boats of around £50000 up us because they come with mooring rights...I can't find any other reason for the differences! Help!!I would be looking for a boat with moorings I think.... My questions are: What are the major differences between boats? Do they all have engines? Are some a better idea than others? What would you go for? Why the huge difference in price between boats? I've been trying to work out if it's based on size, age, type or what but it's hard to work out when you don't know your stuff! I assume that the ones costing around £12,000-£20,000 are just the boat on its own with no mooring rights but not sure as the classified ads don't give much away... Can you moor in Deptford in London?? Where are the nicest places to buy a residential mooring and boat in London without breaking the bank? I plan on learning to fix my boat as much as possible on my own but wondered how you keep a check on things? Do you get someone to come look? Take it to a boatyard? how do I know if it's going to suddenly sink because a big hole has rusted through under water? Do boats appreciate or deprecciate in value much if looked after? Sorry to sound like a complete goon but I've got to start somewhere!! I'm sure I'll have many more questions but any help small or large will be appreciated. I'll check back regularly but my email is blinkeyblonck@hotmail.com should you find the good will to email me about this. Thanks lots and lots!
  6. Hello everyone- I'm Helen, I'm a Londoner (by adoption only I hasten to add) and I'm new here!! I too am considering the boating option where mortgages and expensive flats elude me. I am a complete novice so I am trying to gether as much info as possible and may ask many silly questions! I'm going to start a new thread in the new boaters bit and see whether you guys can help me out! I'm going to need it!!! Thanks
