  1. My friend just watched one of there employees throw blue gloves into the canal. I asked him why he threw them he said I don't give a shit and then he went off and hid his face before I got my camera out to identify him to his employer. Watching this made me very angry. I spoke clear to him with no swearing. Is this what they get donations for? The gloves had fuel on them as well as before he threw the blue gloves into the canal he put a container away with blue liquid in I guess after fueling a piece of Equipment. I think he's reported as he got a photo of the boat number and as there were only 2 employees around he is waiting for a reply. Anybody else had any problems with the Canal and River Trust?
  2. Yes the tow path at Croxton has winter mooring permits alvailable there and as I live 5 minutes walk away it a perfect spot. So even if I pay £140 for 3 months winter mooring somebody else can take my spot?
  3. If I purchase a 3 month winter permit at Croxton at Middlewich does it mean I can keep my boat there for the whole 3 months and not have to move after the normal 14 day period and I can cruise for a few days and come back to the spot I bought my Winter mooring at? The Terms and conditions on the C&RT confuse me
  4. Thank you for all your positive comments

  6. I bet there CRT are glad they finished as the floods have been bad today far worse than before no rain since 8 this morning and waters still rising and are 1-2 metres below road bridges over the river.
  7. At Croxton it is. At Croxton, progress on the ground has been excellent, so much so that we are delighted that we are going to be able to reopen the canal to navigation earlier than we first thought. The anticipated date for this is now Tuesday 27th November 2012 http://www.waterscape.com/things-to-do/boating/stoppages/results?waterways[]=98&search_data_by[]=stoppage&start_day=26&start_month=9&start_year=2012&end_period=all&end_day=26&end_month=9&end_year=2012&subtn=+Find+Stoppages+
  8. Tuesday 27th November the T&M reopens from Croxton to Dutton!!!!
  9. CroxtonCroxton 19 November 2012 Well this week is a tale of good and bad news for you. First the bad news is that this is likely to be my penultimate update for the Croxton Embankment works, however we will morph the diary into one single project, update for the Dutton project below. On the flip side the good news is that the embankment works are nearly all but complete. As you can see from the photos the site has been transformed over that last few weeks and the construction team are now working on the final finishes to the works. This has included installing a new fence at the top of the embankment and beginning to lay a new section of towpath. We will be doing some work with the reeds to the offside of the canal to open up the channel width up to aid navigation round the bend in canal at this location In the coming week we hope to complete these finishing works and begin the task of removing the clay bund we have across the canal. With all this in mind we are really confident that we will be able to open this section of the canal up at the beginning of December as we expected a few weeks ago.
  10. 9 November 2012 Project manager Paul Brown gives us the latest information about the Croxton and Dutton repairs: CroxtonCroxton repairs, 9 November Again it’s another week of great progress and the end is almost within our sight. This week has seen the concrete works mentioned last week almost all completed. The specialist ‘Enkamat’ covering has also been installed which, at the moment, looks like it resembles some kind of lunar landscape. However, raking topsoil over this area this will really improve the appearance and finish off the slope works. The Enkamat was selected as it is Croxton, 9 Novemberdesigned so that vegetation can grow and pierce through the matting and look very much like the original embankment. Over the next week we are looking at completing the works on the embankment. We'll start on finishing works to the towpath and carrying out any odd jobs that around the site that all combine to complete the work. I am pleased to say that we will definitely be opening the canal at Croxton in early December which will re-open the canal up to the Dutton site.
  11. Yes it seems the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.
  12. Hi It was posted on here http://canalrivertrust.org.uk/news-and-views/features/diary-of-a-breach and my local paper with photos of the works here http://www.middlewichguardian.co.uk/news/10031681.Middlewich_canal_network_to_reopen_by_Christmas_after_flood_fiasco/ so it looks like it could be before Christmas if the weathers good.
  13. CroxtonCroxton 02.11 Works on the embankment have continued at a brisk pace with the entire project starting to look more like a finished embankment day on day. After last week’s installation of the Stone Foundations, the Embankment has been rebuilt almost back to the top of the original Crest. Concrete works have begun to the top of the canal wash wall, and are also going well. This is part of the end design these are to increase the height of the crest of the embankment, and also the free board. This will eradicate the low point on the wash wall and reduce the chance of the canal over topping again at this point. At the time of writing the embankment is being top soiled ready to receive its specialist ‘Enkamat’ Covering and protection mentioned in last weeks diary. Progress has been going well and with a review of the programme with the current rate of progress we are now confident to report, weather permitting, that we will look to reopen this section of the canal at the start of December.
  14. Here's a photo of Croxton flash with it's low levels as the work is going on behind. I was told today the work is going well and could be finished at Croxton before Christmas if the weathers stays good.
  15. The contractors May Gurney at Croxton seem to be working all day 8-6 so I think that they are really pushing themselves to get it done as safely and fast as possible.
  16. I just found a photograph I took when Croxton first flooded - http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?app=gallery&module=images&section=viewimage&img=5340
  17. Looks like RT are working at Croxton over the weekend and now that the canal level has been dropped there is a wall of mud between the canal and the flash it looks very strange.
  18. Is that the part from Bartington Bridge 210 to the preston brook which will take two years to fix? I am after a date when the T&M will open from Bridge 179 to middlewich bridge 173 as I am really missing walking the Tow paths there as that section has some of the best wildlife filming locations only accessible via the tow path? 20. Winter visitors to Croxton Flash Every year they return from Greenland to rest and feed at Croxton flash in December/January. They are amazing birds that when you look at them and think that these birds have probably stood next to a Polar bear is just unbelievable that they are now on a canal 5 minutes from my house. Link to larger video Small view
  21. No cats near me and the water is pretty clean as the reed beds which are protected are a natural filtration system and also we have a local team which keeps the town and canals tidy. Try these links to videos Grebe nest Swallow nest My trailer
  22. Is there any chance we could have a wildlife forum for canal side sightings and photos, videos and to share stories of encounters?
  23. Hi Looks like a Juvenile smooth newt it was probably just looking for a new water source or feeding on insects on the cabin side.
  24. There are alot of areas on the 5 mile stretch where the river and canal run along side each other so may work there but not in other places further past the flash. F-FLASH RED IS WHERE RIVER AND CANALS RUNS SIDE BY SIDE The flash was a part of the farmers land and they still own it plus I think they would not sell as they I the diversion would cause a big impact for the wildlife of the area as the flash is a quiet area for wildlife to get away from people I don't think the trust would want to disrupt it. One major thing that would be effected is a protective species that relies on the flash for feeding and breeding but I cannot say here. The area maybe small but it's a wildlife haven and the number of species that would be disrupted by boats being diverted near to the reed beds and waters edge would be hugely impacted especially in the summer months. I think it's easier if they raise the edging stones at this corner and do minor repairs on the river bank using limestone to support and bulk up the bank as it worked on an area upriver.
