  1. We leave this Saturday so if you see us, give us a wave. After reading through everyones comments I now have no plan what so ever Judging by what you all say I'm sure we'll make the most of it which ever way we go. Thank you all for taking the time to post a comment especially when this is my first post and not likely to be a regular poster myself, I will post back and let you know how we got on Cheers
  2. Again thank you both enjoyed the time lapse, I'll post back and let you know how we got on. You never know i may enjoy it that much my next boat could be a one without sails.
  3. Thank you both for your kind replys, The wife will be the only crew i have unless the dog chips in as well. She's fairly fit but as never really been on any kind of boat before and it may take her a while to get the hang of the locks she's already stated that she doesnt fancy taking the helm at any point. I have looked at the route maps and daylight hours would appear to be a factor, if we pick the boat up and get underway by 15.30 and head north west I'm guessing we may not make the top of the Hatton flight by nightfall which basically means not going anywhere on our first night so maybe I've just ruled out Stratford or anywhere else heading in that direction? On another note how will a narrow boat handle compared to a long keeled yacht? 54ft is a lot of boat and appears daunting, can you turn on your axis by putting the helm hard over and and use the prop walk to turn ie using forward and reverse thrust?
  4. Hello all, I've been treading these boards for the last week now getting a little insight into the world of narrow boating. I've never been on a narrow boat or a canal for that matter but I'm no stranger to boating having sailed, motored and paddled all kinds of different craft and only recentley sold my 31ft long keeled yacht as i'm looking to downsize. However my Mrs hates sailing and the north sea and only ever visited my now gone boat once, and that was in the still waters of a local marina. So I'm now hiring a 54ft NB for one week out of Warwick TBH i tried to book a last minute holiday to portugal but gone are the days of cheap last minute foreign holidays, but after reading through the boards on this forum and different NB web sites I'm really excited as well as being a little aprehensive about our up and coming NB holiday. Now the questions: what route would you recommend I take from Warwick for 7 days for a NB virgin I have 3 routes in mind, Stratford and back, stoke bruerne n back, and Bambury n back which is best for food, pubs and drink and which is best for the scenery? and can I keel-haul the mrs if her crewing is not up to standard?.
