  1. Hi again, yes it was the concept I was meaning in relation to spurs. Thanks again for the replies Rick
  2. Thanks for the advice, yes I was thinking about House wiring. Rick
  3. I have a redundant 12 volt socket adjacent to a single 240 volt one. It would be useful in this location to remove the 12 volt socket and replace it with a double 240 volt one. Can I simply add this in as a spur from the existing single 240 volt one? The usage will be for low usage items such as TV and radio. I know I could simply replace the single socket with a single to triple converter but I want to retain brass fittings and I don't think you can get these as triples. Thanks for any advice Rick
  4. Thanks for all the advice. Got the job done over the weekend and very pleased with the results - gives me more confidence to do further work. Cheers Rick Suzie B
  5. Thanks Phil, I remember a red Volvo I had that was more like a pink one when I sold it! I'm only using red because I'm not fully repainting at this time and am matching up with what is on the sides up to the handrail. I'm not expecting it to be a perfect match although the red on the side up to the handrails doesn't seem to have faded too much. Rick Suzie B
  6. I have just taken such lengths of flat brass off my boat to reprint the roof and handrails. Problem they were causing rusting to occur around the screws, brass screws had been used. Plus they don't look aesthetically very good. I will be replacing with fair leads! Rick K Suzie B
  7. Thanks very much to everyone for your replies, some great advice there for a novice like me! Better not get masking tape from Poundland then! :-). Is there a particular make of masking tape that I should try to get? I have bought some narrow tape for use on curves around the mushrooms, thought I would then put standard width tape around that to give me a bit more room for brush error. Rick K Suzie B
  8. Hi, I've just painted the roof (Ivory satin finish with no anti slip) and now want to paint the handrails down onto the roof with an approx 3 ins wide strip onto the roof, this will be red. I will also have red circles around the base of the mushrooms. It will be two weeks since the roof was done so that should be cured. I will put masking tape on, sand the satin finish where I want to recover and put an undercoat followed by 2 coats of gloss.I have read that masking tape needs to be removed whilst the paint is fresh. I am looking to do this over 3 days. I will be outside so looking for 3 good days together! My question is, should I remove the masking tape after each coat, and then reapply. Or is it OK to leave until I finish the 3rd coat? Thanks for any advice. Rick K
  9. Thanks for that point about the various sockets. We only bought Suzie B in November, there are Desmo floor sockets on both fore and aft decks and two poles (strangely jointed in the middle!) there were also a couple of spare floor sockets that were in a cupboard that I was going to use. Having regard to your comments I will need to be careful which I buy for the top sockets. Regards Rick
  10. Thanks for the reply Mike, in fact I bought your book having read some of your articles. The design for my L shaped dinette follows your plans but with a few minor tweaks to meet my own needs (such as the raised floor). Whilst my own wood working skills are not up to yours, I have been very pleased with how it has gone so far, just a few bits to finish off before it can go on the boat. I will also be incorporating the shelves at the back of the unit which I think is a fantastic idea and hopefully I will stop banging my head on the pole holding the curtains in at the bottom! The table top is the next bit to follow your plans albeit with the desmo legs. There are other plans in your book that I am sure I will be following in the future. So thanks also for publishing your book which I can recommend! Regards Rick
  11. That's a good point which I will look at before fixing the position. Thanks Rick
  12. Thanks Alan, that was one of the reasons for having a raised floor, the other was that my wife wanted to be able to see out of the window easier whilst sat at the table. Rick
  13. Re "Much more stable and they fold flat to the top so you dont have to store the legs or drill holes in the floor." Thanks Alex, what I didn't say was that I am including a raised platform as part of the design so don't have a problem with drilling holes for the desmo leg bases.
  14. Diolch yn fawr - unfortunately that is the extent of my Welsh! Google translate is quite good though! Rick
