  1. Dudeos, my boat search is on pause due to unforeseen time constraints. So anyway next weekend I'd like to hire a boat of any kind, yacht, canal boat (more suited to my budget) from Friday to Sunday. Something that sleeps 5 people would be great and location is pretty flexible, so let me know what you have! Danker
  2. Went to see a boat today and there was a little water constantly trickling out of the outboarder from the top into the water, is this normal? He told me its essential it does this and it's sign of good engine. Also there was quite a lot of play on the steering wheel where it was attached and the actual steering wasn't that sharp, took a while before it actually turned. Me not having steered many boats meant I didn't know whether this was normal or not....
  3. People's, this boat malarkey is proving to take longer than I anticipated. My fortnight deadline has gone, but I can feel it, I'll be there soon. So Anyway I've seen a 22ft Teale, question is it has a 2.0 diesel i/b engine and as I've mainly been looking at outboarders wanted some advise about the 2. Had a browse and there's mixed reviews so first hand recommendations from you guys would be helpful. Ta
  4. Yep the more I look the more I realise that which is why I'm looking for boat/trailer package. Another quicky; can sailing yachts use same slipway as a cabin cruiser? I've seem a yacht but it's got no trailer and it's far
  5. Ok that helps thanks. I've found local mooring at £180 a quarter but ideally I'm looking for a trailer now as it doesn't limit my waterway options. I just need a boat now!
  6. Diesel free anything would be good, but key word being dream! You'd think all these illegal wars to extract oil would lessen the price, but obviously not. Talking of which, how thirsty are most boats. Say for example a 5 mile trip in the boat I mentioned above, how much would I be looking...?
  7. B man, it seemed a must before I found out price I was browsing then left, brain over matter, long day, early start, need sleep. Plus I need to choose my dream for tonight. I see an interface in my head, it allows me to choose dream genre.
  8. Thanks a bunch, seems valid advice. I understand about width but to begin with its really whatever pops up for sale at good price. Got my first viewing on Wednesday - 23ft 1976 Cleopatra 700, 2 litre Volvo engine recently serviced, years safety cert and bsc 2015. It is nearly 9ft wide but very local and may get deal with 1 of my cars. I'll keep you updated!
  9. Bottle, thanks for marriage advice, but your spouse was lying to you when he/she said marriage is about you sacrificing everything for them and nothing for yourself. My missus is wearing a rock on her finger the size of jordans left breast so a little spent on myself won't hurt. Plus I dont know where you live but our housing conditions won't sink below the poverty line if I'm short £2k that I spent on a boat. Spot on suggestion Paul C about a trailerable boat it is something I'm considering, however don't know if this is common but seen a cruiser that read in ad 'no slipstream nearby so must be sailed away'. From your experience is it a 'hindrance' finding slipstreams as opposed to mooring. Oh and lastly is the hull condition not checked at all during a safety check when issuing certificate? I noticed gas, engine, fuel lines, electrics etc but not mention of the body. What I'm asking is if a boat has a safety cert for another year how much peace of mind is this..
  10. Budget wise it depends if it's cash I don't want to spend a huge amount, I've got lot of money in cars atm so if anyone wanted a Px with my Jeep thats worth about £5k I could do that. Failing that I want to spend as less as possible without ending up buying something that'll sink after a fortnight. plus I'm getting married end of this year and I've told my missus to hold off expensive houses so she'll go ape sh*t when she finds out! Anyone got a sailing yacht? I've noticed these are pretty cheapi...
  11. Thanks Gibbo, don't know about losing money though but rest of it your right! So anyway during my convos today with boat sellers, not many have got a river license or safety cert, and they seemed oblivious to needing one :/ Insurance seems cheap enough but mooring in some places is £250 a quarter, so me thinks get a 6 month river license and anchor up on side. Is that do-able? probably will go for a cheap grp cruiser so will keep you updated. I do have a feeling though that this will sprout into a long love affair!
  12. Dudes, have none of you guys brought a boat on impulse?! It surprises me, majority of my life is based on it haha and btw I'm not minted by any means i just know how to do as little research as possible so as not lose money when re-selling. As long as others aren't at risk by my actions, I tend not to do a years research before a venture. Anyway, my brain is fast absorbing your wealth of info so thanks to all who haven't prescribed to the conspiracy that I'm a robot sent by mothership to play pranks on boat forums. Questions: Mike you mention the size of UK canals which I already know, if I were to purchase the Birchwood 25 would that massively restrict my routes then? I like the idea of mooring on Nottingham side of Leicester, I may even look at Nottingham marines. Also the survey sounds like a must, I was hoping to make acquaintance with a local expert before purchase anyway but where would I go about getting a survey?
  13. Ok so I'll get my licenses and I'm done. Calling a marine tomorrow for mooring spots, I'll have a boat within a fortnight! Goodgurl I have an entourage worry not. Ray T thanks for the warning, can't help but laugh I dont want a world cruise though so I doubt I'll end up floating in the middle of the Atlantic with no fuel.
  14. Is what I thought this morn. Me: just turned 26, live in Leicester, never had a boat or had any experience but got a Cadillac which I use daily and that's same size as a boat. Now from my extensive 5 minutes of research I've seen that there isn't any kind of specific license required if I want to ride inland and coastal - is this true? Also there's an annual 'tax', a 4 year 'MOT' and mooring costs.. Am I on right lines or are there any other charges I need to be aware of? Main question I had was this. I've seen a couple of cruisers, one 25ft birchwood not far from me. Now if I purchased this and contacted a local mooring place to get moored up, would I be able to freely roam the rivers of the UK? This may sound stupid so I apologise in advance for consuming your time but any help would be appreciated. I live in Leicester and have a lot of friends in neighbouring Nottingham and I'd quite like to stroll down to Trent Bridge every weekend. Also what's from stopping me from mooring on the side of River Trent at Trent Bridge? Mucho gracias in advance, please help me so I can buy a boat and I'll keep you all entertained for time to come.
